Ivy Scholars at Yale University

From my D’s e-mails to Ivy Scholars Program at Yale University:

(1) Q: This year, I applied for the Global Leaders program. If I’m interested in a different program next year (such as APPLE), would I still be accepted for it or would I have to reapply?

(2) Q: Will you send information about choosing a program and everything before spots start filling up next year or do we need to contact you first?

If we have not contacted you by Thanksgiving, you should reach back out to us. However, your spot is reserved :)

Nice customer service.
My hat’s off to Yale. Stanford still hasn’t figured out how to fill their classes, or keep customers satisfied. Too independent.

I like how Yale works this, it makes deferred students feel that it’s not that bad to wait a year.

Did they reject anyone? If not, I think that’s a terrible policy.

@ameripen I’m sure that they must have rejected some people. However, I’d doubt that people would like to say so on CC if they have been rejected, considering the fact that many students in the CC community have either been accepted/defered. We have to remember that CC attracts a certain type of individual.

I think they must reject some. But keep in mind, these are programs meant to fill their dorms/classes over the summer. Most programs will take anyone who can pay; this program is thought to be collegiate level and more selective, but still, the motive to keep the place full is there. If you google the program and read about its origins, it was clearly started as a money maker for the school during the summer.

The full tuition is due June 1st… When were we supposed to make the $2,000 deposit!?!

Does anyone know?! I think I may have missed it!

They wanted it ($2,000)when they got the forms up on their website needing completion–early last week, I think.

I thought the deadline was 1 June. I fully paid and submitted forms on 31 May.

Yup, for APPLE, everything should be paid in full by 1 Jun. You have more time for the other 2 programs.
Initially, they wanted a $2000 deposit at the time of acceptance to confirm your spot.

Do you have any idea about the acceptance rate of Ivy Scholars?
I heard somewhere that it was 20% but it sounds way too low

It seems to be that way and it should only get smaller

They only accept 100 people, and there are deferred people making the amount of acceptants from regular time submissions about say 80-90. With 500 people registering, it would be 20%. However, it says there are international students, which means that his program isn’t that small. Therefore, I think 20% is a little high.

Historically, I am consistently reading via googling 20%.
Also, from various college consultants that this is known to be an academically rigorous college level course and one of the most respected high school summer classes.

Thanks for the info!
Those 100 are in all three programms or in each one?
For example in Grand Strategy I thought they took only 60 or 80, smth like that

How much does this cost?

Conversation seems to have died down on this thread…

Anyone do any of their summer reading? I just realized that there’s so much; won’t even be able to start until I come back from Boy’s State.

@HONORLIONS what is the summer reading if you don’t mind me asking?

APPLE— I’ve finished everything except parts 2-5 of the Norton Analogy book. I thought I was behind, but then you comforted me. ;-)

Also, does anyone have the official source for the ~ twenty percent acceptance rate? Behzah101’s explanation seems to be a bit shaky.

Online, I also see 20%, but I feel it should be at least lower this year based on numbers and logical deductions.
*they did say they had a record amount of people applying this year (more people, lower percentage)

Nice! What program are you doing?
