i have a 4.0 at an ivy and want to transfer to yale (my school doesnt have a major in the program i'm interested in). how hard is it?

and you cannot construct your own major at the ivy or what?

they dont offer classes in the subject, so no. yale has 25 classes in the department.

What ivy do you go to right now?

brown. and im a freshman.

good chances.

yeah, a good shot with the 4.0, just make sure you have great recs, great essays, and show that you truly want to study in whatever dept. that brown does not have.

also, how common is it to transfer from one ivy to another? and does anyone have any strong feelings brown v. yale?

. . . why did you go to Brown if they don't have your department?

b/c this is a new interest of mine. i didnt know you could study this.

What is this mystery subject?

Persons... develop interests.

Yale is an incredibly difficult transfer accept, but you will be one of their top candidates. Does Harvard have the same dept? Its easier to transfer into.

but isn't it true that Brown doesn't have minuses, so u get an A, any kind, its a 4.0, i am just saying, it takes a lot of pressure off, b/c there are no minuses, at many other schools, many Brown kids with that A would have an A- 3/4 of the time, and its a huge difference

bball: Not really. Instead of A- we get AB which is 3.5 so it kinda sucks.
However, grading in Cornell is a lot harsher than that in Columbia.
Btw why are you trying to get into U of Chicago? They have the same syndrome as Cornell. U of Chicago has had like 2 4.00 in 10 years. I was really discouraged. All pre-meds abre getting their throats cut.

i know at Wisconsin, it is reallllllllllly tough

but at Brown, u only get A, B, C

there are no Ds, or Fs

kids that dont even show up to class or take tests will have a 2.0 GPA

so if u even try, u have a 3.0 B

Nah. It's not that tough...

Do they do that so they have more retention after freshman year, so they rank higher? Isn't that why MIT does first year P/F or some BS?
Btw so many kids take P/F. Doesn't that hurt your chances when you apply for transfer?
/sorry for stealing the post/

No kidding nspeds it just suprises me that when Brown offers zero classes in that mystery subject they can know they really want to major in it.

Availability of courses is not a precondition to acquiring an interest - though it does help; my previous school did not offer any substantive courses in philosophy, but what incited my interest was personal reading.
