Hey y’all for those of you who are like me and have had other people in your school win so you assume that you are not a finalist. I’ve taken comfort in knowing that however challenging my situation chances are the winners are more challenging, and if challenging isn’t the criteria then they chose those who may have more of an impact, and so although its hard, I’m truly happy for those who won. It must’ve been well deserved and you must have incredible potential.
Good luck to everyone in all things good and lets make the world a better place.
Alright guys I believe JKC has officially sent out emails to all of their selected scholars. I wish you guys luck in your college careers, as I am sure anyone who has made it as a semifinalist is headed toward a successful future. Love you guys! Stay safe, I hear there’s a serial killer running around here in the East…
Begins obsessively refreshing email lol
Well I say that they’ve sent them to all selected scholars, but truthfully idk if anyone else aside from myself received one. The CC is empty, I just sort of assumed they sent them to everyone
@ciencia I received one also at 15:04 ET.
Where are the JKC award winners in this thread going to college?
For everyone waiting, don’t count yourselves out just yet. I just called the JKC scholarship contact person to ask in regards to notifications or recipients and I was told that some colleges have yet to announce the news to the winners so notifications are still being sent out until the end of the month.
Congratulations to those who have already been notified, and good luck for those of you still waiting like me
Yeah I wouldn’t tell people they’re out of the running just cause you got an email. I honestly don’t know. Checked all the JKCF groups and no mention of an official notice date.
I am so worried I didn’t get it and the anxiety has been making me develop insomnia. I was never asked for additional information and my CC doesn’t seem to have heard anything. I heard about the scholarship last minute and applied on a whim, but now realize how crucial it is for me continuing school in the Fall. I both called and emailed them for an update and was told I will receive an email by the end of the month. If they already know I didn’t get it, why not just tell me that? I just want to be able to sleep either way, at least I will know.
The anxiety is eating me away -_- still nothing and there are plenty of people that are already notified winners. I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t update us if decisions are already made.
More like…did anyone get rejected yet? Because if not then I’m pretty sure I’ll just be made to wait until the end of the month to find out I can’t go to university.
Where did you get this information?
JKC called me back and told me JKC will officially send notifications at the end of the month. They also told me that the community colleges have been notified by JKC about who the winners are, but they can choose to not notify students. This sucks because my CC’s administrative staff is so incredibly useless I’m sure they won’t tell me ahead of time.
Are colleges also notified when you don’t get the scholarship?
@Brokenbeauty23 just relax, if you get it then you get it. Stressing out isn’t going to change any outcome. Be happy you made it this far
So I contacted the VP for Student Services at my college, who then forwarded my email to the department for financial aid and scholarships. Unfortunately, they have no record of any email from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. While they are still investigating and have promised to get back to me, they seem fairly certain that nothing was received over the last week. I would love to wake up tomorrow morning and find out that they stumbled across an email in the “Spam” folder, but I think it’s time to face reality. I was most likely not selected as a finalist. (That said, I never gave the foundation a person to contact from my college when I filled out the application. Would they have sent an email to the college president, the financial aid department, etc.? I wonder…)
My initial reaction was disappointment, of course, but I want to send a message to every (presumed) semi-finalist who is reading this thread and feeling equally disappointed: use this experience to your advantage. Move forward and continue to excel wherever you go in life and in whatever field of study you pursue as an undergraduate. According to the foundation, we are allowed to mention our semi-finalist status on resumes and in other scholarship applications, so USE IT. Universities will take notice! You competed with over 2800 highly qualified students and made it to the top 20%. That is an accomplishment to be proud of and a true indication of future success.
Hugs, everyone. Don’t take the rejection personally as the letters arrive and stay focused on your goals. Most of all, take some time out of your day to remind yourself that you are all incredible scholars on a path toward success, even if you weren’t fortunate enough to be chosen as a Cooke scholar this year.
I emailed my school and they have yet to respond. I see a student was just notified today and not yet everyone has been notified yet, so I suppose it is possible, though seems unlikely.
I was waiting too for college scholarship notification and I sympathize with all of you wondering if you won. I don’t think it should be so hard to let the loser know they lost.
I wonder if no notification yet…situation is possibly different for students in Il, because of the budget crisis that lead to layoffs and job losses at Community Colleges. What if the contact JKC has listed at the college is someone that is no longer there?
Still waiting for my school to respond since I emailed them last evening, which means they likely won’t reply today either since it’s getting late. I am on edge since I need to know if I have to complete my program in the summer and payments are due in a few days. If I do not receive the scholarship, I plan on finishing my associate’s in the Fall instead and applying to far more colleges and scholarships next year. Not knowing is making it very difficult to plan. If I didn’t get it, at least I will have the summer off and more time to think about how this is all going to work for me. I just wish I’d hear either way before my tuition is due.
