I keep hoping I’ll log on here this week and see that someones’ school notified them that they won…
Hey guys. I know @poppypup I am finishing Swarthmore’s app and almost done. It is really exhausting. It is almost April!!!
@optimisticky I will always admit, when asked in person, that I peruse these boards. I should have known you would be here, lending some supportive words to prospective Scholars. As you did for me. It’s the time of year when anxiety kicks into full gear, and for people like you and I, whose every hope hinged on this, it is palpable.
p.s. you are the brightest yellow banana just before the peak of ripeness.
@AlwysHope Thanks for being here too! I see you were a part of the infamous 88-page thread, where many were notified only in May… I can’t imagine how much anxiety came from that, the constant "by next week"s.
Are you planning on going to this year’s Scholar Weekend?!
Did anyone apply for PTK Scholarships and was selected?
I can see, the legends are coming back. I must admit that the scholarship money is significant and will ultimately determine if I go to my top school, but the reason I applied to this scholarship is to become part of a community that values education, intellectual curiosity, serving others, and overall the pure awesomeness that JKC scholars transmit to the world.
If I can’t be part of that, I’ll die a little, but I will always remain optimistic, determined to leave a positive mark in this world. I couldn’t apply for the PTK scholarships for time-constraint reasons, but I had applied for other scholarships.
Today, I cried when awarded the Kennedy-King Foundation Scholarship. Even if it doesn’t pay for all my tuition, I can’t help but feel genuinely grateful because somebody else is recognizing my effort.
@elhanhzos That’s such great news, congratulations! I’m super happy that a lot of us here on the thread are receiving good news in the mean time. Be sure to let the colleges you applied to know about these scholarships. Or maybe you want to wait for the JKC notification so you can send them one big email that’ll pack a hell of a punch!
@CAALMZ_01 I applied and was selected for All Texas Academic Team, but I did not receive any scholarships. I am not surprised though. I was prepping for finals around the same time of completing that application. lol. Not my best work but I was happy to get all state!
@elhanhzos Congratulations! That’s so great!!!
Hello guys!
Sorry to bother you again. I just have a question to ask: Are the personal essay questions the same every year or are they changed?
Thank You!
Hey, @writerk123 I think that some of them are the same, but three or four question always change.
@writerk123 Yeah, I remember showing some of my college’s previous scholars the questions and they did mention that they were different (particularly the short answer ones). I think the longer autobiographical one may be the same but I’m not 100% sure.
Hey! What day in April do you think JKC will announce the finalists? I’m so nervous and I purposely set up email alerts so I don’t have to keep checking it every second lol I’m crazy! Hopefully I receive good news & all of you do as well. I just keep in mind that whatever happens happens and life goes on. It just would be a huge financial burden off my shoulders and would allow me to have a real college experience if I became a finalist. I would love to meet all the finalists and share our experiences with giving back to our communities & our service to others. Good luck to you all and keep us updated!
@unique99 the million dollar question eh? :)) I can tell you this, the scholars that won last year from my college posted the news on the 11th of April. Last year’s thread, first person found out on the 6th (Thursday)
IWith JKC working swiftly this year, we could find out around the 6th, so I’d say middle of April’s first week.
@AGoodFloridian I feel like we might receive the descisions early this year because they’ve been on a good pace this year. We’ll see
Knowing about the results early would be awesome since it would let us respond to our college of choice accordingly. Regardless of the final decision, It has been an adventure of almost seven months, where I’m sure most of us have grown, reflecting upon our dreams and how we plan to achieve them. We’re all winners. AND we are ALL condemned to shine.
I’m soooo nervous right now. I haven’t heard anything from the Foundation after I was notified as a semifinalist. But let’s stay positive. I hope no matter what happens, it will be the best result for our personal growth.
@bainianjun Im REALLY anxious about it too. I’m hoping for next week!
I love how everyone is starting to hear such great news about their futures! Makes me proud of our semifinalist group, who will be going far regardless of whatever JKC decisions are released in the upcoming weeks. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders a few days ago bc I just received my first acceptance letter, so I at least know I’ll be heading somewhere new in the fall!
@poppypup Congratulations!! It is so exciting, isn’t it?! I can’t believe it is finally April. The next 2-3 months are going to be a whirlwind once more university decisions are released too!! Can’t wait to hear where everyone ends up.
Regarding JKC, I am honestly excited to hear the news even if I don’t make it. I know for a some people on this forum it is going to be life changing and I am happy to be along for the ride! We have all made it to an incredible point in our academic careers as semifinalists. IM SO PROUD OF US!
Hello everyone! I guess it’s crunch time. One of the college I applied to (Univ. Wisconsin-Madison) emailed me that they closed my application because they did not receive my materials. I have proof I paid and it shows that they retrieved my transcripts. This was so down heartening for me because i feel like this will look bad to JKC if they see one of my selections didn’t even make it. Oh well. My plans if i don’t get the scholarship are the same before I found out I was a semi-finalist - to go to UT Austin. One of their history professors is like on every historical documentary and has written several books. I just want one class with him, that’s all. Then my life will be complete lol. Austin is only 2 hours away and I will make it work. I’m currently working on an internship with the African-American Libarary at the Gregory School here in Houston and finishing my semester, i have a VERY full schedule and honestly haven’t had time to get nervous about this, but now I’m starting to feel it. Good thoughts for everyone and hope to hear results soon.
