Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2015-2016

Heard from a former JKC scholar that it should be between this Fri-Sun. Focus on finals, and best of luck.

I don’t believe no dates from no body - not ta-day… Fool me once, fool me 30x times lol - I’m
Sticking to may 1st. If I hear back before then good.

I already accepted my offer from NAU. I got a scholarship from the National Science Foundation specific to NAU that I couldn’t pass up. So JKC will just be icing on the poor man’s cake if I get it. Well that and for graduate school.

@RlyOwl L M F A O! I’m with you lol

Hello Scholars – both former and future. Quick disclaimer: I am but one of 90 recipients of the 2015 JKCF UT scholarship. Finding out I received the scholarship has been, and will remain, one of the best moments of my life. It is truly life changing and, as evident from combing through 43 pages of information on this discussion board, you are all deserving of the scholarship. I am totally ready to meet all of you and see my current Cookie Cousins at Scholars Weekend 2016! Congratulations to everyone for making it this far into the process! Even semi-finalists have a leg-up on the competition because most, if not all, reputable institutions of higher learning are notified of semi-finalist status – that is the case to my knowledge.

This thread is absolutely amazing! Thanks to @optimisticky for setting this up, for it is evident that it has helped many JKCF-UT applicants through this exciting yet nerve-wrecking experience. I wish that I found something like this when I was awaiting the decision. By the way: I can say with certainty that I know the true identity of @optimisticky . The lack of capitalization is trademark. :wink:

I found out that I received the scholarship on 4/27/15 during a University transfer reception at my community college. As @optimisticky and @nekozuki (whose identity I have almost certainly deduced as well) have either stated or implied, there was no semi-finalist notification last year as there is this year. All applicants had to wait in complete darkness before receiving word of whether or not they could consider themselves JKCF scholars. In this sense, I am shocked that most of you still have your heads on straight after finding out about your status as semi-finalists.

Last year, I actually gave up hope that I could win the scholarship after referring to the JKCF website only to see that recipients would be notified in mid-March and still not hearing anything throughout the month of April. Suffice it to say, April was a pretty hard pill to swallow. I thus commend all of you for sticking with this thread and trying your best to keep up the moral!! Funny bit of information: A community college professor of mine actually recommended that I apply for the scholarship in the last week of November, 2014. The application was due early December but got pushed back a week. Without that extension I would certainly not have my current user-name, and I would not be able to say that I have had face-to-face conversations with both @optimisticky and @nekozuki (I seriously know who both of you are; like really). But I wish I could have been more readily available to answer your questions during the actual application process. For what it is worth, I am more than willing to answer any questions you have now.

I was actually a Cooke Outreach Representative during the program’s roll-out and I am pretty sure that I spoke with a few of the applicants on this thread that are awaiting JKCF’s decision. One in particular, @mariamsaleh . It is difficult to forget such an accomplished list of accolades, and I noted in our previous conversations that I was fairly certain you would likely be considered throughout the selection process. Good job, and I wish you, and all others, the best!

I come bearing a gift, of course!! I will not repeat verbatim the information I recently received in an email from the foundation, but I will say they are requesting that we, as in current UT scholars, readily prepare to greet the new UT scholars and organize some of our lovely Cooke Scholar meet-ups. Just know that those selected few will experience how the 2015 UT scholar cohort, myself included, felt right around this time last year. I will leave it at that. Regardless, you should all be proud of yourselves!

If it comes to be that you are awarded the scholarship, I can tell you, from personal experience, that even a year after being awarded as a recipient you will probably still wonder, as I do every day, why in the world you were selected for and introduced to such a great honor, great opportunity, and great family. I am still grappling with this question. Seriously, I call my JKCF advisor and ask her this question all the time but she will not tell me, so you have that to look forward to, at least. Just note that this scholarship is about more than just the financial support. I truly hope many of you become recipients so you can fully understand what that really means.

Let me know if you need anything, and I wish you all the best!

@ScholarofJack15 hi! Thank you for your kind post! I wish we could get a hint as of which date we will start hearing ;)!!

I was wondering - did you find out at the reception by being surprised by faculty, or did you receive an email? I think a lot of us are wondering if the school will let us know this year or if we will find out directly! I live in the EC and a lot of the schools are going on spring break now… So there will be no school …

@RlyOwl What colleges have an April spring break? I’m an east coaster too and familiar with April vacation, but it seems rather late for colleges to be on break now.

@lifeasaprayer I would agree that it is late, but what can I do. I actually don’t mind it as the weather is beautiful right now. Just weird about the notifications at this point. Most of my classmates are going away next week. Oh well, I guess I hope that means I will get a direct notification.

Thank you for message and help! It means a lot to me! I am so nervous because I been accepted into UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State Scholars program. I also won a few competitive state awards and was currently selected as the only student to speak at my college’s graduation ceremony in May! I am the top student at my college. I kinda lost hope when the some semifinalists called last month and were told they were out if they didn’t receive “an additional email” other than the semifinalist email, it was a bittersweet. I will not stress, I will still accomplish my goals no matter. I will be starting a 10 week summer research on cancer cells funded by National Science Foundation this summer and couldn’t be more excited. Whether I get the JKCF, it will be an honor to be part of a great community, this is what I wanted throughout my whole life is support from a great community. I have the best community at my college and hoping that the JKCF will provide with a community for the rest of my life after graduation. If my college offered at bachelors degree, I wouldn’t mind staying and cherishing every minute. Love my college, advisors, and the student body at large.I just want to make them proud and be the first JKCF scholar from my college. Again, If not, I will still have left a great legacy behind. @ScholarofJack15

P.s I know my first name is not mariam but just throwing in there @ScholarofJack15

@RlyOwl Yeah, I suppose the only thing you can do is enjoy the break! Are you going away anywhere good? I’ve gone on two mini vacations since the beginning of March and it was seriously the best way to not think about the what ifs of this whole process…

“By the way: I can say with certainty that I know the true identity of @optimisticky . The lack of capitalization is trademark.”

obviously @ScholarofJack15 can attest to the obvious fact that i’m the best looking and most well spoken scholar and basically can’t fit any shirt sleeves over my swol arms 'cos they’re just so swol.

:frowning:

@optimisticky obviously

Going to Coachella tonight! I’m so excited to have a weekend like this to distract me from the agonizing anticipation.

@ScholarofJack15 wow, wonderful post. So as a Cooke scholar, your are obliged to attend events for future scholars? Sigh, that’s not what I wanted to hear…
Anyway, I also received a full scholarship to the University of Central Florida today, while it’s not my first choice (it wasn’t as exciting as I had hoped), I do have a backup plan if I fail to receive the Cooke scholarships.

Good luck!!..

Another quiet day. . .

So hopefully next week?
We can do this, guys!

Another day, but not another dollar.

The rhythm is staid.
Metronome clicks, like a locomotive.
The station has been announced, but the city is unfamiliar.

I just called right now before they close their offices and the JCK rep told me that they have not selected finalist for the JCK Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. She also mention they are veryyy behind and that there has not been a time frame to finalist to find out. On the other hand she also mention that all finalist will be notified with an e-mail. But to be honest we all get different answers when we call so IDK what information is true.
