@nickybee Welcome!! Where did you apply from?
i asked about the semifinalist notifications with a mentor in the foundation. she said it’s new this year.
@optimisticky Thanks for doing that, bro. I wonder how many people they chose out of the 2300.
I guess it’s nice to know you’re a semifinalist but it definitely adds some extra suspense to all of this. I applied out of GCC in Glendale, Arizona and as you may be able to tell I’m going for a degree in forestry.
I received an email yesterday saying I was a semi-finalist. My school representative said in the seven years she’s been there, I’ve been the only semi-finalist that she knows of. So, is there another step? Do we know how many were chosen total? Congrats to all of you!!!
Did they say how we’d be contacted?
They sure do know how to keep us in suspense! @sdudasik none of us really know anything. There is the impression that how they handle all of this changes often over the years so even talking to past winners is not of great assistance specifically for the question of “what happens next?” (Of course they have wonderful knowledge of other helpful things.)
The representative from my college who contacted the committee was told we will be emailed by a scholarship adviser who will ask us questions and for documentation (possibly) and to whom we can ask questions to. However, when we will be contacted, if we will be contacted all at once… no one knows. I am guessing… since they have had our applications for many months and they have to announce the 85 winners in about a month that they would have narrowed it down to 500 or so students, yet that is only a guess because they are not revealing any true staristics on the matter. Two other people from my school that i know of are also semi-finalists (they dont use this website.)
So for now we just have to wait and hopefully if people start to get contacted they will just happen to be in this group and will share what they have learned
I am a semifinalist too. But my twin was rejected and she has a 4.0. Quite sad.
Are any applicants or past winners single parents?
Yes, many winners are non-trad, both single parents and grandparents have won. There is no such thing as a cookie-cutter scholar or JKCF mold. There is a ton of diversity in background with each group selection.
Does anyone know if they ask for financial info like 2015 tax returns?
I applied from Chicago @Jouuuu sorry brand new to this site not sure why this comment didn’t post underneath your question.
So I was notified that I’m a semifinalist. Anyone know if you can still be competitive if a school has offered to pay most of your tuition? I’m still a bit short from paying for it, but by very little. And it is not my first choice of school, I will not find out whether I was admitted to the schools I really want to go to until May, after the decision is made.

Anyone from NC?
I also got the email congratulating me on being selected as a semifinalist. This is different from last year as they did not email anyone till the decisions were made. I wish they have not emailed me because after I applied, I thought it was a long shot but now I just can’t sleep thinking about it.
has anyone heard anything from the scholarship committee following the semi-finalist letter?
I have been checking my inbox… and spam folder, daily. ahhh the anxiety!
Hi guys! Another semi-finalist here. I just got back from spring break and saw the email. The suspense is killing me. As others have wondered: how many semi-finalists do you think there are?
@makxcv congrats and welcome! I also curious, but we honestly have no idea. I would imagine maybe somewhere around 300-500? I think 10%-20% of the original 2300 wouldn’t be too unreasonable, right?
I am really excited…at the same time, I don’t want to put all my hopes into it! Do you think they will postpone the decisions since they haven’t send us any info for making it to the next phase?
