Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2015-2016

@aritransfer16 what parts of illinois? Im from central IL.

Indeed it is @jakobe2020 . This is also the last week I will refrain from calling/e-mailing/telegraphing/carrier-pigeoning and snail-mailing the foundation 21 questions, everyday, until we know what’s going on. :))

I hope this is for last years winners.

@Matsilinen Thank you for such kind words. I lost my mom about four years ago, so I know it can be hard and I imagine that there are others here with similar experiences.

@RlyOwl It is. You want the “New UT Transfer Scholars” page: http://www.jkcf.org/scholarship-programs/new-transfer-scholars/

@Auggie95 Alas, just boring Chicago - so the thing everyone associates Illinois with.

@LostUber Honestly, if we don’t hear back this week, I am going to assume that by telling us they will get back to us in 2016 (in the initial semi-finalist) they meant Dec. 31 2016 at 11:59 PM EST and we should all move on with our lives.

Less than 15 to go until 1000, all! We can totally make this our accomplishment of the year.

Seriously, this college deposit thing is killing me. I am stalling as much as possible, but my deposit deadlines are coming up. I know some of you have posted on this already, and I am right there with ya. The added stress is difficult. I got into my top choice school and costs are just too high - and the answer for what they will be offering for my financial aid will not occur until after my deposit is due…Come on JKC…

@RlyOwl That timeline - not providing you a financial aid package until after the deposit is due - is not O.K. Have you called them and asked for an extension? Even disregarding JKCF, you need to know that before you can commit.

Congrats on getting into your top choice, though!

Honestly, I don’t even know how I am going to afford my deposits. I have to call schools and see if we can work something out, but I have no money. I was joking with someone that one of my topic choices, who I have not heard back from, requires no deposit, and if I get into them that will be the deciding factor.

some schools will waive or defer them if you beg and plead. i’m sure you’ve already entered negotiations, but keep in mind, JKCF won’t cover the deposit unless it appears on your cost of attendance form. at least, this was true in previous years. so you’ll likely have to pay it and hope that JKCF will reimburse you at a later date, by requesting that your school add it to your COA.

of course, this only applies if you’re named a recipient… if they have actual recipients this year, i mean. :frowning:

@optimisticky I think the idea of deposits are awfully problematic. I mean, I get their intended purpose, but it amazes me that there are apparently people who can afford them with little issue.

and lol, yea, really this whole thing is a veil for the fact that they are not awarding anything this year. Sigh. I have confidence they will work it out eventually.

(Ten more!)

8 - This is cheating tho ya’ll. LOL

7 - So. Does anyone have any furchildren?

Well, I’ve been rejected from my #1 and #2 choices. My #3 choice, however, provided me an excellent financial aid package and even sent me a personalized note today telling me how thrilled they were that I was choosing their school (I already sent them my deposit). They know who I am and are already so welcoming - it seems this was meant to be.

I’m no longer hoping for the scholarship. I’m in okay shape without it. I didn’t get into the schools I would need it for, and I want those who need it the most to get it. Good luck everyone.

5.) No one is being cheated here. We’re just showing enthusiasm in earning what is rightfully ours because we had to wait so long.

4 - I mean really we should have been done with all of this at around 500.

@anythinghere This is my experience with the school I was just accepted to, who provided me enough money (with grants and loans included, of course). Their admissions note was incredibly personalized and they have reached out to me. I am at peace, too; I merely want this to done.

@ForestryGuy 3! Yes, at this point, we have earned our 1000 posts.

Ok - I am posting the #2 to allow @ForestryGuy the #1 post…eye of the tiger…

Lurker from Tulsa, OK here. Have thoroughly enjoyed the discussion, good luck everyone. #999! Who will be 1k?

Hey guys. I am a semi finalist for the scholarship. I’m from Alabama and I came across this forum. I have been following it for a few days. Hopefully, this is the week we hear something back. Congrats to everybody!

Am I the 1000 number post ? Lol
