Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Scholarship 2014-2015

But of course it is disappointing not getting practically a quarter of a million dollars for your studies through your master’s. It sucks! But just applying shows how great all of us are and the initiative we have to change the world in our own way. Even if we don’t get this, we have so many other things waiting for us. The important thing, to me, is being a little sad about it, but using that sadness/disappointment as motivation to keep applying for other scholarships and finishing college. :slight_smile:

My fortune cookie says “Grasp opportunities to create the future.” How coincidental 8-}

wow, does that mean we only have one winner from this forum?

I also am a winner. And class valedictorian. Two big news in one day. Cant breathe

@liveinthelbc that would be amazing, sadly I’ve already had mine. Nothing exciting happening for the rest of the semester. Good luck I really hope you get it!

but that fortune cookie is ironic. But you are right we’ve all overcame obstacles bigger than this. We all have had financial hardship and got this far, we can make it the rest of the way. Thank you all. This forum has helped me so much to talk with others who are going through the same exact situation as me. You all seem amazing and I am sure if they could give us all 40k they would. We still have technically half a month until they said they would start telling people; maybe that means not everyone will know this week.

If anyone hears bad news; let us know because I would imagine they would send a big mass email. And hopefully that means whoever doesn’t get it and hasn’t heard gets the scholarship.

Congratulations to those that have won so far!!! I’m just thinking no e-mail is good!!! Lol

@ElizabethB82, I would go with that too. Plus I don’t think everyone would give out news at the same time being that people are from different schools. Even if I don’t win and someone was to have won at my school, they would not have found out yesterday. At least I don’t think they would have found out. The one way that everyone pretty much communicates at my school which is email and that was out for eight hours yesterday which also included taking out the whole school website and the student website. Generally, one or two people win at my school so I expect someone to win.

so the dean called me this morning. she asked me some questions about how i like the college, where i plan to go, have i applied for graduation yet, what am i majoring in. it was 8:30 in the morning. i was scared as hell.

she said JKCF is going to contact me in an hour.

Well I was just told that one was notified by e-mail. I’m so confused but since @greekgirl2005 and I go to the same school, well before she graduated, then I know how they do it.

okay so i just spoke to my college president and i WON OMG WHAT and the foundation will be contacting winners around april 30. your college notifies the recipient and inform the foundation that you’ve been contacted and then the process proceeds.

hope you all receive the same news. i legit want to meet some of you.

Congrats optimisticky!!!

Not gonna lie… I’ve been reading all you guys’ comments ever since this forum started and you have been my source of update since then. I finally made an account today because I can’t help but commend all of you for your hard work and patience! I’m a student at the Northern Virginia Community College and I applied for the same scholarship. I haven’t received any notifications from JKC either. We had three people from our school who won last year (one from this campus I believe), so I am really really nervous and scared!!! The provost of our school is rooting for me because she wrote me a recommendation for this scholarship, and that makes me more nervous than anything!! Anyway, I’m so so so happy for you, @optimisticky!!! I am sure you well deserved it, and that also goes to everyone in this forum :slight_smile: Best of luck to everyone!

Just got special last second invitation to speak in front of the campus president and fellow honors students on Tuesday (I work, so they know I’m only on campus Mon/Tues). It’s the campus president’s class, and she always emails me for stuff like this but instead the new honors director/JKCF contact did. This will either be a huge honor or a huge disappointment, lol. We’ll see.

@Aiyrassenav
I am also from NOVA college annadale campus, let me know if you hear something. I didnt get any email either, nor did my friend who applied also.

sounds promising @nekozuki. my college pres said all 90 recipients had to be notified by early next week because the foundation begins calling recipients april 30. the dean of university relations parroted that later by saying that because my phone number wasn’t current, they were worried i’d miss the deadline set by the foundation to be notified.

Thanks! My campus surprised the previous JKCF winner too, and the campus president knows me so well that she would’ve simply shot me an email rather than inform a stranger (our JKCF contact is new) to call me and confirm a time and a shaky backstory. Then again, it might be a completely random thing. We’ll see, either way, I’ll know by Tuesday.

yeah well, i don’t envy your wait. i had to wait one night between the first email the first phone call and it pretty much gave me PTSD.

@orehan yes of course!

And @optimisticky OMG I had just changed my number three weeks ago! What should I do? :-S
