Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2013-2014

Denied. :frowning: Good luck to all of you. I’m sure you deserve it. Keep us updated here.

I wish everyone the best of luck in their scholastic endeavors.

Don’t procrastinate on starting the phase two section. There may be just over a month before it is due; however, there is a lot of information that is required. Start looking it over right away.

Definitely. My official high school transcript can take up to twenty two business days to arrive; luckily I ordered it today. I am also asking professors now for the recommendation since at my school finals week starts December 9th and school doesn’t start up again until January 20th. You never know if they could be going on vacation or something. There seems to be much more essay work as well on this phase, along with a substantial fill-in resume. And of course, all of the financial items.

What schools are you guys planning on applying to?

My choices are UC Berkeley (Chemical Engineering), Johns Hopkins (Biomedical Engineering), and I am still thinking of what to put as my third one.

@liveintheblc

I understand the uncertainty with the choice as I applied to more than 3 schools; however, for my list I went with Harvard, Columbia and Brown. I also applied to a state flagship school as well as a local state university. My major will be economics at any school I attend as I am going the pre-law route.

Have you decide on the school for your third choice yet?

USC and Cornell, only one is required though, the last two are optional.

I would say my third one is Cornell. Even though only one is required, I feel as if the more choices put, the better. I guess it all depends on where I get accepted to!

So four people on this post so far who are Phase Two applicants!! It would be really exciting if at least two of us made it and they met each other at Scholar’s Weekend. :-)

Hello everyone, I just saw this thread. I passed on to the 2nd phase as well. Good luck to you all.

Hey everyone (: I also made it onto phase 2 of the scholarship and was wondering if anyone could lend me any assistance with it? Certain bits of the application confuse me.

HOUSEHOLD INFORMATION

When the application asks for the total # of people within the household it says to not list the applicant, but when I scroll down to the area where I am prompted to put the # of people within the household it says “including yourself.”

It also states to not include anyone from parents household, which I don’t understand because I selected that I was a dependent. If I am not allowed to put myself or anyone from my parents household there would be no one to put… And “0” is not an option.

When trying to put information below the only “relationship to applicant” selections available are things that wouldn’t apply to me because I am NOT an independent student, I have no spouse, nor children, nor any dependents.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION

I made very little money in 2012 and was not required to file a tax return, so, I’m not entirely sure to put for several of the sections under “income.”

Under “assets” I’m not entirely sure what to put for the total amount of money I have saved up in my bank accounts, I don’t have a lot, but I feel uncomfortable by the idea that money I’ve been sacrificing to save for years could jeopardize any opportunities I may have.

Under “home equity” it asks if I rent\own my place of residence, as a dependent I don’t do either of these things. I’m lucky to live with my parent’s rent free. So what do I put on the application?

Should I address some of these issues under “special circumstances?”

I have never filed a tax return and have misplaced my W-2, what do I upload?

How do you save a document as PDF?

I’m sorry I know this is super long but I found several things about the application kind of confusing and would love some clarification. Unfortunately my college campus is closed until January and I’m not sure if the financial aid counselor is going to be there for me to ask her questions :frowning:

Best of luck to all who made it and to the rest of you pursuing scholarships.

Have the same question

Me too!

I called them a few days ago with a question regarding my high school transcripts and the person who answered was very helpful. I would suggest you call this number: 1-855-509-5253. They will be open after the Holidays (not sure when though).

Let us know what you find out.

It is nice to meet the other new people in the forum. I am glad you found your way here too.

It has been busy month with holidays and spring semester starting; I am sure I am not saying anything you are not experiencing. Just a reminder, the deadline is approaching fast. If you are finishing on the final touches to your application, do not let the beginning of the semester derail you. After submitting it is just a matter of waiting.

If anyone starts to get their transfer application decisions from the colleges they applied to, do not hesitate to share them here for some enthusiastic congratulations!

Good luck to everyone and to a great spring '14 semester for all of us!

Anyone that got to phase two mind sharing their stats? I would gladly share mine if u guys wanna know.
Like somebody else said, it would be nice to know our achievements and what we are all competing against, it would maybe even push us further for those last refinements!

I have the same questions as AnthroFlo. Not independent, but have to list household members that don’t include myself, family, or family members (yet I have to “include myself”). I don’t have a spouse, child, or any dependents. I don’t rent or own my house. I have never had a job so I have never had to file taxes. I will call the number listed tomorrow since I have been unable to get answers elsewhere, but I am quite worried because I don’t understand this at all.

Has any one got an answer for @brotherdriver of @antrhoFlo?

I am so nervous anyways I got the same question and they wont pickup the phone because of the other callers!

Anyone that may know please any insight?

Never mind just got an answer from a rep if anyone else is having this problem all you do is state everyone in your household excluding yourself. Then for each select “other dependent”, which will drop down a blank open box to explain. There you will state if it is your father, mother sister, or just the relationship.

Thanks for sharing @fdominguez. I had the same problem.
I wish everyone luck
