Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship- 2013

Some schools like to wait for commencement to surprise students etc… I think this has changed recently because of possible errors or sudden changes in plans and possible deaths. My personal scholarship committee confirmed this and said I would either get a phone call or an email in early April. The JKFS said all nominees would hear from the JKCF in early April. Some students might win the scholarship but fail to meet the SP13 requirements for transfer. And GPA’s get busted in January after December nomination. I seem to remember reading about the announcement changes but can’t find it… Either way good luck! I hope everyone will post their experience this week if any is to be had. God Speed.

I saw a post today eluding to mid-April announcements. I have inquired confirmation and get to you so we might be able to rest a little more easy this week. =)

Hi There! Nice to see i’m not the only one waiting on the edge of their seat for the announcement!

I was nominated by my school and we haven’t heard anything yet so i’m getting anxious.

Where are you guys logging in to check the status of your applications? I can’t seem to get to the application login anymore…

Nevermind, i found it. Under committee review!! Woot!!

Yep…super nervous. I had heard just like Diane that in past years the foundation notified the JKC rep at the school, who then worked out the best way to surprise the student. Some had them called in to the presidents office and had a news crew waiting, others showed up in one of the students classes with balloons.

I imagine it would make sense actually for the scholarship committee to contact the Rep’s first to verify that the student’s GPA hasn’t changed, etc. That way if the person is disqualified they can award it to someone else…but that’s just my thoughts on it.

Howdy Y’all!

I feel a little relieved knowing that I’m not the only one that has this scholarship consuming their thoughts! Early April is upon us, now it is just a waiting game :/

Best of luck to you all!

Best of luck to you too! Where is everyone from?
Dallas Texas here…

Hi everyone! Look at us all coming out of the woodwork haha. I’m from Birmingham, Alabama. It’s early April, we should be hearing things! The 2012 thread shows that scholars didn’t find out until the end of April… I hope the end of April was the date they told the scholars to expect a notification, and not the beginning! I’m just so ready to know!

I’m from a small farm community, near Toledo Ohio. I noticed that too @anthro4387. I hope that we don’t have to wait that long for “early April.” Also, I have a quick question. I noticed that some of you mentioned something about your application status saying “under committee review.” Where are you guys checking your application status?

No reason to be out of the woodwork in January lol… You find the Under Committee Review in the same place you submitted your application. I would not bother going back there and adding to your stress-at it will only serve to tell you if your school nominated you or not- which you should already know. The status will not change, no matter what, from this point on. I saw a post from JKCF yesterday that they would let everyone know in Mid-April. So maybe we can all rest a little easier this week. I have asked for confirmation and will post the reply if and when I get one. From what I gather the dates and means of letting nominees know has changed this year from last. Who knows though… no matter what anyone says to us we are going to be freaking out until we hear first hand. =) Glad the forum is building an audience. If anyone heard anything be sure to post as soon as you can.
Good Luck everyone!

BTW- All Awardees have already been selected at this point.

Hi Again!

I’m in Littleton, CO. I am actually surprised that there are so few of us on the thread at the moment! It seemed like there were more nominees commiserating on the 2012 thread, so I’m hoping that means there were less nominees this year and we all have a better chance! lol

I’ll most certainly let you know if/when i hear anything, and i’ll be checking back for any/all of you to do the same! It seems like JKC might set some unrealtistic goals for themselves judging by last years thread, because they started out saying they’d notify in mid-April, then it became the last week of April, and by April 28th, in the end a lot of the people on there didn’t seem to hear anything until May!

I’m less anxious to find out if the news isn’t good, but I still need to know so i can make some decisions about my summer/fall semester!

So…for the sake of sending positive thoughts into the universe, how are you all planning on celebrating if you find out you were selected?

Positive vibes in the Universe indeed. Best of luck to you. I do not think I will celebrate. For myself the road to here has been long and enduring. I think the nomination changed me in so many ways that I have already celebrated. If I win I imagine I would just spend a lot time doing the usual–being contemplative and humble. I want to be a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar more than I want the awards. As far as your Fall plans go, you should continue making them and not let this scholarship hinge on any future decisions. There is always a way and for most of us getting here out surpasses and obstacle we could face in light of not winning. We are due for tears and that is certain–happy or sad. It is VERY important that everyone know that not we are all already winners, win or lose. It must be a very difficult thing for the JKCF to have to discard 740 deserving applicants. God Speed you and I hope everyone here gets to report back good news! =)

My 7th grade daughter is also waiting to hear about JKCF scholarship. I guess its not the same one as the rest of you since she is not in college yet but we are on pins and needles with you just the same! Good luck all~

I imagine you mean the Young Scholars Program. That is very awesome! A rare honor for your daughter. Best of luck to you guys! Being nominated for something so rare is a life changer all in itself. You should be proud. =)

Yes, Blue, Young Scholars. I couldn’t remember what it was called. She also took SATs in MArch, amidst chaos of two family deaths, with absolutely no warm up or strategy coaching, and got a 640 in math so pretty good first time out of the gate. We were excited about the JKCF for her but in reading the fine print more recently, it is much more financial need than merit geared and we fall in the higher end of the range they consider. I get so frustrated because things arent always what they seem and sometimes the reverse discrimination is really frustrating. lo Anyhow, good luck to all

I’m confused because my app status still just says “submitted”… :(

qcat11- Were you told that you were nominated by your schools scholarship board? Anyone who meets the eligibility requirements can apply, but your school is the one that ultimately nominates you to be considered by the JKCF. If you are not clear the best thing for you to do is simply ask the JCKF if were nominated by your school.
You can do this by emailing JKCF at schoarships@jkcf.org
Best of luck to you and God Speed …

@qcat11 - Hiya! I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Since i’m betting you were told you were nominated (or i doubt you’d have sought out this thread) i’m sure you’re fine. I remember reading on last years thread that the application status gets set to “under committee review” once they get to yours as they go through the list of all of the nominees.

Considering they are fairly well known for running behind on the selection process, i wouldn’t be surprised if they just haven’t changed your status yet. (they only changed mine like 2 weeks ago)

Though if you’re as anxious about it as I’ve been, you can certainly email or call them. I’ve heard they are great about responding to students. You can also check with the teacher who runs the JKC stuff at your school if that’s easier.

Hang in there! Only a few more days/weeks till we all know!! :)

Good luck!

April is such a big month for us!! I’m waiting on about 9 different decisions  COME ON ALREADY!!
