"Thank you for your email inquiry- we will be letting students know their admissions status by March 31st. Thank you for your patience as we work through our admissions process.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance."

It sounds like we still have a chance unless they are waiting to hear back from the people they offered a position to see if they accept, so they can divvy out the extra spots if they anyone declines the offer.

Yeah i’d think that the process is just incomplete at this point. my understanding is that they narrow down the applicant pool in general to the point where individual mentors can sift through the list and choose those best suited to their own research. possibly, dr. mills is just very ahead in the process and the rest of the mentors have not had a chance to finalize their choice.

also, there would certainly be a ton of rejections out by now if they were only waiting to hear back from their first round of choices. so i’d say we all are still in just as good shape as we were when we initially sent in the app.

"Thank you for your application to the 2014 Summer Student Program at The Jackson Laboratory. I regret that we are unable to offer you a spot in the program this summer.

From a pool of hundreds of outstanding and deserving applications, we awarded only 34 research fellowships (around 4% of the total application pool). This was the most competitive year in the history of the JAX Summer Student Program.

We appreciate your interest and commend your pursuit of scientific research."

Rejected as well, but I was expecting that, as I’m guessing only about 5 rising seniors got in. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about this program anymore…but It was great visiting this thread everyday and seeing all of your posts, and congratulations to anyone who made it!

I wonder if the rejection email was sent en masse, or if there are still rejection emails to come. At least we’ll all know by Monday. (Did all who received the rejection email receive it at the same time?)

Congrats to the 34 who got in! I’m still nervously refreshing my email. X_X

As for other research opportunities that are still taking applications, maybe ask around your local colleges to see if any professors are conducting summer research! One of the neurobio professors at my university received an email form a high school student looking for experience, and now she works in his lab with him.

Nicktj, me either. If they’re planning on sending out another round of rejections, hopefully we aren’t on the list! At least by Monday the waiting will be over. Hopefully.

I have not heard back either. Curious if anyone else has had an acceptance? Sounds like today there are some rejections but has anyone (besides the one) been accepted?

From last years thread, it looks like a lot of people did not hear back long after the initial rejections. It seems some were speculating that there was an extended waitlist in case someone declined the offer at the last minute, so they’re probably doing the same this year.
I’m guessing they will mail out the acceptances on monday, good luck everyone!

@ankwen do you believe that offers were made to the 34 and those of us who did not get feedback are either going to be rejected shortly or are on a wait list (waiting for the 34 to accept or reject the spot)?

Well, there are hundreds of people who applied to this program who aren’t posting on this thread, so it is possible that there are more people who heard back last week when that one person did. But then again, maybe they have not sent out the bulk of the acceptances yet…
