*January 2010 SAT Thread*

IS Jan SAT for intl’s going to be the same as oct. test for U.S.?

That Hitler video was awesome.

I got this book because I thought it was going to be really great. It put me to sleep, to be honest. If you can absorb information by just reading, by all means, get it, but I need to actually do practice questions before I can fully wrap my head around a concept. And as for your question about delivery to Asia/Pacific…there should be time and price estimates on Amazon. I don’t remember how long mine took. Eeesh! But I had a friend who ordered some SAT II books two weeks before the test and got them in time to cram a bit.

The College Board isn’t that stupid. The tests are the same worldwide.

Well actually, the international test is different. Because if it was the same, we could find out the answers here in the US due to the time difference. So they give out a different test for internationals. That said, it of course won’t be the Oct. US test.

@alihaq wasn’t it? :)

For those who havn’t watched it heres the link:

Whoops. Sorry if I came across as b–chy there. I tend to do that when I’m trying to be concise. :S

Are you talking about hitlerrantsproductions videos? If yes, take a look at Hitler is informed of nothing.

Three weeks from today!

What are you all doing in terms of studying at this point?

Well, I’ve taken one practice test so far during break. Hopefully, I’ll take more soon.

Hopefully the writing curve won’t be that bad. Only section I’m worried about.

Can anyone vouch for Grammatix? I have the e-book and it is really interesting but I don’t know how legitimate the guy who wrote it is.

Jan taker here and I can’t seem to do well on the writing section.

Taken 3 practice tests from BB and received 800 CR/M on all 3, but a 700 750 and 730 on Writing. I’ve given myself pretty harsh essay grades (Two 9s and a 10) but always make 1-2 errors on the MC section. Does anyone have a really good method for perfecting the Writing section?

@sd6 i didn’t like grammatix. i think the guy is legit but it just didn’t work for me.

I’ve only taken one practice test as well, although I plan to take more this week and next. I’m doing well on CR, moderately well on W, but my math score is still considerably below where I would like it to be. I know all the material, but I can’t seem to stop making stupid errors! :(

I’ve taken 1 SAT per day.

Here’s a hint: do not use collegeboard’s online course practice tests.
Despite the “Collegeboard” label, they are about as accurate as those of Barron or Kaplan.

The reason for this is probably they were made in 2004, before the new SAT was even introduced. I think they were the initial experiments and collegeboard decided to use them lucratively by providing them with the online course.

^ and I no longer regret skipping out on that 8)

Taking this in January, doing sections of the old blue book practice tests 'til then. My scores were going higher, and higher, and higher (we’re talking +10 pts per section raw)… and then they stopped >.<

And no full length practice test yet :(

For those doing practice tests in the Blue Book, have your scores been steadily improving? I feel like mine are very, very slowly improving, but still pretty much randomly arranged in the same score range.

thank you… I was wondering if I was the only one who thought those tests were unusually weird (did you notice the weird formatting for some of the CR?).

I saw the 2004 on the bottom and started thinking the same thing but they say test # 6 was previously administered and that test ended up being my best score out of all the tests so far… =) So i think your right.

The 2nd Ed. Blue Book tests #4-10 are also not “accurate” in the sense that they weren’t actually administered tests. However, they contain many actual questions from pre-2005 SATs, which despite the changes still have a lot of overlap in content with the current SATs. So, you’re still seeing a lot a questions just like what you’ll get on the test today.

My ranking of practice tests (best first):

1) any real 2005+ SATs (QAS, [thread=757034]official practice tests[/thread], BB2 #1-3)
2) other CB tests with real questions from old SATs (BB2 #4-10, 10RS)
3) online CB course (made by CB but unsure of “real question” content)
4) other providers (Kaplan, PR, etc). <– distant 4th

I’m taking the test and I’m so nervous b/c it’s my first time and my math score is not where I want it to be.
