January 2011 SAT

I do not think the curve is predetermined. Where have you seen this stated?

The curve is not predetermined. Bad info.

got 770 cr, 660 m, 650 wr. WAS SO disappointed with writing. Just looked at the report,

CR: -3, 0 omit. (I swear that stupid goat irony…)
M: -3, 6 omit (I’m pretty happy here)
W: -2, 4 omit. ***. I did not omit any. Maybe I skipped some? Also, the 8 on the essay was devastating…

UGH. W could have been 750+ even with the 8. My mc raw was 67/80.

@BJcollege: the curve is not predetermined but doesn’t depend on how well or poorly students do on the test. It only reflects the difficulty of the test relative to other SATs. In this case (800-770-740 was the top of the curve), the test was relatively easy, so the curve was harsh to compensate.

What were the curves? Were they harsh or lenient? How many could you miss and still get an 800 on the reading, math, writing?

I got 700 in reading, 710 in math and 620 in writing w/ essay 8

when do we find out which questions we got wrong? if ever.

Upon searching, I realized I was wrong. It isn’t necessarily predetermined; the test-takes DON’T directly affect the curve though. The experimental section data is needed before the curve is set I suppose.

neorobie, from my own scores and others, -2 = 800 in CR, -3 = 770

Wait… I got 5 wrong in math and I got a 680… I didn’t skip anything. :/

that’s because in the 5 wrong, there’s a 1/4 penalty for each, putting you at 5 + 1.25 (which rounds to 1) = 6. So you got -6 off your raw score. I got -3 and 1 omit and it counts as -5 because -3 = .75 which rounds up to 1 making it -3±1±1 = -5.

hope that makes sense.

does anyone know if we get to see how we did on the experimental section, ever?

But Marysidney ended up with a 700… What’s up with that?

i’m sure she looked at her raw score to determine the “5 wrong.”
i highly doubt both a 49 and a 48 are the same score
