@lollypip probably not the best reasoning I have done, but I believe they are pretty insightful. thanks for the input!
Also (i know my essay says not too but i made up those examples) Im seriously debating on canceling my score. This is my third time taking it, and I cant afford another bad score. Advice?
@lollypip @thenonchosenone It was by-product because in the passage marion talks about how newcomers are not used to the new sounds and sights and all of that good stuff, therefore, the strange new sounds and all of that good stuff are by-products to newcomers since they are not used to the new surrounding, nor do they expect such sounds in the first place, which as a result is new to the newcomer and for a while, a by-product accompanied along with their arrival to the new place until they finally become a part of the “superorganism.”
Either way, that one was really, really tricky since you had to infer to other parts of the passage in order to get the best answer. Pretty sure the curve for the Reading will be quite generous, especially since it seemed like they threw along of cruveball questions at us.
gonna repost this: my answers to mc were bubbled in very darkly and were visible on the back page. Do you guys think there will be a problem?
srs… y’all think I’m good?
Like I said before: how visible were they on the back page? I’m pretty sure you’re good tho.
You can always order a score verification FYI
Was the answer “steel is less suitable than other materials?”
As for the math curve mentioned earlier, that is ONLY valid for people who got n number incorrect (They answered the question, but got it wrong). If you left the ones you were confused on blank and you answered all of the other questions correctly, it will NOT be a -30 deduction of each question you didn’t answer (Assuming the curve will be like the June 2014 test). After doing the math, it will be a -15 to -20 point deduction for each blank that is a multiple of 3 (Round down for better assurance of what you might have gotten).
-0 800
-1 770
-2 740
-3 720-735
-4 690-705
-5 660-675
-6 640-660
Continue on from there.
If there is a mistake, don’t be afraid to fix it.
@TheCanadianKid I don’t agree. I put the embodiment of an unfamiliar custom because I think the byproduct one stated something along the lines of “byproduct of being a newcomer.” However, it was actually the CITY’S byproduct, not Marion’s. You said in your explanation that all the good stuff are byproducts TO newcomers, implying it was the city’s byproduct, not Marion’s.
Please predict my sat essy at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1855098-please-predict-my-essay-score.html?new=1
@TheCanadianKid you had to read a bit farther in to the text. The buzzing noise wasn’t literally just “noise” it represented all the things in America Marion wasn’t use to. The byproduct choice was way too literal considering how this article was centered around a topic deeper than just moving to another country.
@rand123: sorry, but I also think byproduct. It isn’t an embodiment: its just one part of a whole feeling attributed to being a newcomer.
@lollypip lol you don’t have to apologize. We interpreted it differently it seems.
just one more thing (because I can’t rant off in public or to anybody else), the passage stated how the “buzzing noise” went away after a while. I felt that meant Marion got used to the whole American culture, which is an embodiment of an unfamiliar place. IDK, I might be reading too deep into all this, plus it’s only 1 question
@rand123: I really hope it was embodiment though because I chose that and didn’t have time to change it.
@thetex was that even an answer choice. the only two i remember were “only use steel if its requires less energy” and “use less steel”
@TheCanadianKid , There is no such thing as a score not divisible by 10.
@rand123 I don’t think it was an embodiment of an unfamiliar custom because riding in a taxi or car on a highway isn’t a custom per se, and even if that were true, “embodiment” refers to the inherent nature of something (i.e, clowns are the embodiment of fear), but the question, if I remember correctly, asked about the experience relative to him (i.e, fear is a byproduct of clowns), which makes the embodiment argument incorrect as it doesn’t specifically relate to the car-riding’s effect on Marrion. That’s just my 2 cents, however.
Why don’t we ask someone who got an 800 on the Cr in June 2014 what the answers to some of these highly disputed questions are? Anyone know someone who has info?
@JuicyMango I dont think a lot of our controversial questions were on the June one. I looked at the June test on crack test and it didn’t have dark matter or marion.
