***January 2016 SAT (US Only) Thread***

@Cece0499 I got a 2400 on a practice test I took :P. I think I’m good with everything except for my essay which has been stuck at a 10 for the previous 2 times I took the SAT. But I have no idea how to improve :/.

@JuicyMango

Congrats on the perfect score. Please tell us what prep books or program you used. Thanks.

@CHD2013 Thank you :smiley:

For anyone who has the same issue in critical reading as me (stuck at 700, wants a 730+)

I read on a thread that someone had the same issue but re-did the blue test books and studied each lesson they got wrong in the test again from Erica’s Critical Reader. I just thought I’d put it out here because I believe this is an excellent way to prep and would probably be what I’ll do for January.

blue book’s tests* OMG sorry I was so sleepy LOL

I got a 2400 on a practice test the day before the SAT, but I used up all my luck there so I did badly on the actual SAT.

@JuicyMango lol same…but tbh I’m not going too much about the essay because I too am stuck in the 10 range. I think it depends on your graders after the 10 range and a bit of luck :stuck_out_tongue:

@BethanyD I never got my 700 in CR but I will definitely work my behind off for it in January. Hopefully second time is the charm haha

@Cece0499 hopefully! November was my lucky charm :stuck_out_tongue:
The articles revolved around astronomy and an A+ student’s experiences as well as music, so I did very well since I find the topics interesting. How “interesting” or “intelligible” I find the articles really affects my score

Last chance for me. Got a 2080 on the November which is pretty bad so hopefully I can get 2200+ this time.

Anyone remember how to do that last fill in math question on the November SAT? It was an equation with a lot of x’s and y’s in it and you had to solve for y. I was confused because it gave an equation and then it gave what x was equal to, but in terms of both x and y.

When I took the SAT in June, I had a 1440 (CR+M+W) haha I know that is really bad! October SAT I managed to increase my score to 1730. On the December SAT, I forgot my calculator --which was stupid of me but never the less I managed to get 1800. Now here I am, practicing and prepping hard for the January test. I’m determined to score at least 1950. 2000 would be very nice! This is it!

Does anyone know how to increase their scores +300 points. I have been on a score plateau since March, 29 Act-March, 1940 SAT- October, 29 ACT- December. These scores are equivalent, and I am starting to get frustrated.

@cptjosh787 I believe you can do it…as Ive just eacaped that range after months of hard work. (:

@katelynm whats your score breakdown? :stuck_out_tongue:

@amdcous hey a 2080 isn’t bad at all! What was your breakdown for November?

740- Math,660- CR and 540- Writing

Anyone have any advice on how to get an 800 on the writing section. I know pretty much all the tricks that college board has in stock since I have done a lot of practice tests. However, I always average 3-4 wrong on the two sections combined :(. When going over the tests, I realize where I went wrong but I don’t realize that when going through the problems the first time.

@katelynm You’re in luck…writing is by far the easiest to improve. I was in the 500’s range in the summer and within two weeks of constant practice I was meeting the 700 mark. You’re CR and math scores are really good! (:

I got a 2120 on the November Test (800 Math, 670 Reading, 650 Writing 8 essay) I know i can get my writing score up because I screwed up on the essay and I couldnt finish but now with a lot of practice, I have improved. It is Critical Reading that has been really bad for me because I tend to always miss 2 questions per section, one vocab and one passage. Does anyone have any way to consistently make a 780+ because im stumped. I cant go above 730.

What is the best way to improve on math?

I used some practice problems from SAT Math Chung for practice. I never studied SAT Math , math is more of natural talent for me, but before the SAT, I went over old algebra and geometry notes. It also depends on what math you are in, since when I took the October SAT I was in AP Stats, so depending which math you are in certain concepts you forget. I missed 2 questions on the October SAT, and they were all geometry related, since you dont do geometry in statistics. I also got the SAT Subject Test Book, and went over Math I practice problems.
