January SAT 1 and colleges

has anyone talked to any of the colleges to see if they will take january SAT scores?

Very few, if any, colleges will take the January SAT alone. Some will take it if it's accompanied with an SAT II writing tests, but most schools require the class of '06 and beyond to take the New SATs starting in March.

Call the admissions office at your prospective schools and ask which one they require. Your Jan. 22nd SAT I scores will be considered in admissions, and if it's really good, than that's of course a plus. But like I said, most schools will require the New SAT.

My counselor advised me (after I had taken the Jan SAT) that colleges will frown upon taking that particular SAT because it would appear to them that the test taker is trying to take the easy way out, and that the test taker is wishing to inflate his/her score by taking a familiar test rather then risk an unfamiliar task. I partly agree with him, but it was too late for me.

many of the most prestigious colleges will allow you to take the highest section from any test date, including the january one. They will not frown upon this, as you will still have to take the new SAT to get the writing section score. However, if you were to only take the old SAT I and the old SAT II writing, then yes, the colleges might think that you are taking the "easy" way out.
