January Sat I Test Takers!

essay counts for about 30% of the writing section score but you will get to see a "sub-grade" kind of thing

I know this sounds stupid but what is "blue book"?

The Blue Book is the OFFICIAL COLLEGE BOARD GUIDE TO THE NEW SAT. It's a blue book, hence the name. :)

Oh yea... I'm taking the SAT's in Jan. too!!!

If I get a 2250+, I'm never taking them again!! Otherwise...
cya in April...

Have been doing all of the practice tests in Princeton Review book...
Is PR's scoring lower or higher than the actual SAT test?

(For the Math, I'm sure it's lower since 1 wrong is a 780 & have heard of a lot of people getting 790's on the SAT Math. But what about W & CR??)

lol... that's my plan too!

I'm also taking the Jan one, I took the December test and got zonked on my math (640) CR & Writing were good though, 800 in each. :)

By the way, do colleges take your best from each section and add it up, or is it just your best overall test's results?

I used PR, CB & barrons last time, and found PR to easily be the best in terms of estimates, CB just gives you a range, which isn't really that useful. Oh and regarding the essay, I think you can still get 800 if you don't max it, ( I personally got an 11 and made 2 mistakes on the MC part)

most colleges take the best from each section so if you get a 800 M in your retake, you will basically have a 2400.
Congrats on CR and W by the way. How did you do on your essay?

I got an 11 in the essay, (bit sad about that since my twin got a 12, I still beat him in writing though :) )
He got a 2360 (M- 780, CR- 800, W- 780)

hey k twin...wut did u and ur bro prepare with to get an 800 in CR?

Hi, Well we didn't really prepare. I mean for us, CR and writing were a bit of a breeze as we've been reading books and encyclopedias and the like since 3. Also on debating teams and stuff like that, so we kind of use SAT words normally :). But some of my other friends who got high 700s in CR & Writing used Barrons. Other than that, I can second the ideas regarding newspapers. If you can't get access to a high standard one, then I would suggest that you try the websites of reputable news agencies. Reuters, the BBC, and CNN are of a satisfactory level normally.

any tips ktwin about what to do in the test ... like any ways' you answer your questions and read the text in CR? what's your method?

do i have to buy the "blue book" or do i have to go on a website to study off it.....
can anyone give me advice on how to get CR scores higher? ( my dec. sats score were very bad compared alot of your scores...i feel so dumb :(

The blue book is a book..you can order it online at the College Board's website.

oh ok does anybody have aim so they can help me? my aim screen name is xxbadboy1102xx id appriciate if you guys help me out

Well, I'll just dash off a quick reply (Its 6:30 AM here, and I'm leaving for school). Regarding CR, well, the only strategy I used was to practise speed reading before; its very useful as you're able to get the essentials of the passage in your head very easily. Then, I normally read the questions, did all the obvious ones quickly and left the tricky ones or the debatable ones for a second run through. This enabled me to finish very quickly and do some revisions before time.

wow k_twin i'm so jealous of you.....CR is so hard for me! i'm a total math/science person. my vocabulary SUCKS, which i know is easy to fix, but the words just don't stick with me. i'm also a slow reader. my biggest problem with the CR is that i come across questions where i feel like i know the answer, but none of the options reflect what i think the answer is. either that or i'll eliminate 3 and not be able to pick one out of the last 2. sigh i know there's not much advice you can offer since this just comes naturally to you, but if you do have any more PLEASE share

I'm a math and science person in class but CR is easier on the sat because once you see the questions over and over they get pretty easy. I read so slow I just skip the passage and go to the questions and I get them right all the time. Just go with what works for you.

Jan 2006 SAT will be officially my last SAT. It's the last day of the year in the Chinese calendar. A great time to wrap up something and have a new start.

anywayz, bless me.

yea haha chinese new years, atleast saturday wont be that bad.

Yup, the traffic here is already getting hectic from Chinese New Year and I have to travel to another city to take the SAT too. =/
