Jester East or Jester West?

Hello there,

I'm going to be attending UT in the fall and my housing requests are due June 1. I can't decide whether to put Jester East or Jester West as my first priority choice.

From what I hear...

Jester West:
-more connecting baths
-louder because its got the cafeteria and such downstairs
-not renovated
-14 floors

Jester East:
-renovated
-10 floors
-where the athletes stay
-quieter and more detached feeling
-loftable beds, but less closet space

Which one is overall better? And feel free to correct any of my traits about them.

pretty accurate description you’ve got there. In my opinion, the older rooms had a better layout so the benefits of a renovated room are kinda neutral. I had a connecting bath in West and really liked it. I’d only recommend it for guys, though, because girls tend to take forever in the bathroom. Then again, dudes might be a lot messier.

Generally, you’ll be happy in both dorms. It’s just a matter settling some small preferences. Everyone’s initial reaction to seeing their dorm room is something like “I’m supposed to live here?”, but by the end of the semester the only complaints people have are with their roommates. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you get acclimated.

Thank you for your input. That makes a lot of sense. I guess it really just comes down to whether I want it to be renovated or not and I really don’t know. I only saw the unrenovated ones in west. I guess an added question is, are the beds in east all lofted or can you chose for them not to be lofted? And is there a significant more
Amount of storage/close space in west as compared to east or not necessarily?

I haven’t been to a room in East for a while now so my memory isn’t too clear. I believe that all of the new beds are adjustable, so they can be lowered to a normal bed height at the expense of storage space. I can’t remember exactly how much total storage space there was though. I’m sure someone else on this forum has a better memory or is living there right now.

the renovated rooms in East are nice. The beds are adjustable, so you can either loft them or put them at a normal height. there isnt a lot of space in dorm rooms, so if you dont loft your bed, you lose a ton of storage space

Thanks guys! Last question. Not directed towardsa anyone in particular.

I keep hearing that Jester East has less storage space and what not. Does this mean that the actual size of the room is smaller? The size of the closets are smaller? Or does it simply it mean that there are no storage drawers under the beds (like in West). Or a combination?
