A couple days ago, the above articles were published in a recent edition of the JHU newsletter. After a backlash in the national media against the first article listed, the article was taken down, and the editors of the site claimed that the article was a "satire".

The second article (in the "news and features" section) remains but with the comments disabled.

Just to let people have an idea of what some of the people are like here.

This was clearly an egregious incident based on the details and the follow up. This supports the traditionally held notion of:

All university newspapers are atrocious - no school is exempt. Every year 20-30 colleges produce bone-head articles and have them run only for them to be scrutinized and blown up and out of proportion by the media. From Harvard to Hopkins, UF to Colorado State - college newspapers are atrocious. It’s not an example of “what type of people go there” for example as the above posted stated. It’s really students learning lessons right in front of our faces about media, public opinion and the world at large.

Heck - Chris Coons (D - Delaware) is trying to get away from his comments from an article he wrote in the Amherst College Newspaper in 1984. It’s incredulous to say “Just to let people have an idea of what some of the people are like here.” One cannot legitimately use these examples as the norm when it’s clearly the anomaly.

That’s the type of comment that makes me want to punch people in the face. Fortunately, like the people here, civility compliments my brilliance.

Shut up. The article was written as satire, and the twats over at Jezebel, who are ruining feminsm, like to make something out of nothing. The newsletter was correct in publishing the article.

Sure there are people who are like that at Hopkins. The author of the article is not one of them, he’s a satirist (albeit a poor one), so he should not be grouped with them. But there are people like that at every school. It’s the ***tard culture we live in. Get over it. Hypersensitive children who’ve had their spoon brought to their mouth since they were twelve either end up incompetent (i.e. the OP) or ***tardtastic (i.e. bros).

“Twats at Jezeble” “Who are ruining Feminism”

LMAO>>>At you.
How does one go about ruining feminism?
Maybe the fact that you call women “twats” might speak towards why Jezebel.com even exists?

Satire? Nope. It wasn’t funny. Or satire. Wasnt well written. I read Tucker Max’s book cover to cover. Some very funny stuff. But not satire. At least Tucker admits his motivation. GS (the author) wants to pretend he was being ironic/satiristic, instead of just admitting he is a ******.

Feminists should not be mad. The opposite really. They should revere and praise GS. It is how he thinks, how a lot of guys think. Guys like hot, barely dressed women.

It’s the frat boys that should be mad. The guys that think of party names like “Lingerave” and “corporate Ho’s and CEO’s”. These frat boys put a lot of thought into how to get women to wear very little and drink very much. And, truth be told, the majority of those boys stand a much better chance of ‘getting some’ on a weekend night if there is a steady stream of drunk women with low self esteem. I’ve seen questions about “Hot women…do they go to JHU?”, but the reality check is that JHU men are nothing (On the average) to write home about. Ugly, Dorky guys need liquor and a woman searching for validation from some dude with a popped collar in order to get ANY nookie. GS could have blown the whole gig if some of those “elephants” decided to stay home or go elsewhere on a saturday night. After all, from what I hear, most frat parties are pretty much sausage-fests anyway, so the loss of even one women (and potential frat-boy target) would be devistating.

The best (oh, and man, do I mean best) part of the whole thing is that while anonymous posters like you can call a woman a twat, and an anonymous poster like me can make fun of you for doing it, the author we are talking about (GS) is now immortalized on Google for that article. Good luck getting a job when a simple background check is going to find some very ugly stuff written by you and about you. (dont believe me? google his name!).

Wealth is right, it in no way illustrates the typical student. Just one. And the whole thing could have been avoided if it had been published in the humor magazine (black and bluejay). What a great cautionary tale however, for students.

Time to boycott this frat’s events. or any with similar events.

and btw resorting to “shut up” rather than analyzing and discussing the issue demonstrates that you appear to lack the desire or ability to see this from the perspective of those who have been insulted by it. women and men alike.

and certainly, not all frat men at hopkins are like this. but it is best to be able to discern those who are.

I say shut up because of double standard. Where is one protest by women because they don’t have to register for Selective Service. If the gender roles were reversed, no one would be complaining.

Here’s the standpoint of some feminists who suggest Jezebel hurts feminism and women.

“I say shut up because of double standard. Where is one protest by women because they don’t have to register for Selective Service. If the gender roles were reversed, no one would be complaining.”

That’s one of the oldest misdirections/derails in the book. Whenever some vaguely feminist statement is made, it’s like there’s this Greek chorus of “FEMINISTS HATE THE DRAFT.” But most of the feminists I know are split between thinking the draft is classist wanting to abolish it, and being cool with women being eligible. Feminists still hope to pass the Equal Rights Amendment which was proposed in the '70s and would make women eligible for the draft.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure that “because feminists aren’t clambering to get drafted” is an ineffective response to “why should this dude use a tuition-funded publication to engage in fat-shaming?” (And, also, “why should this other dude use a tuition-funded publication to advocate for situations resembling date rape,” which is possibly even more problematic.")

It’s too bad this stuff is going on anywhere, but especially at a school of Hopkins’s caliber. One would think the students there, of all places, would be too mature to write and print something as ridiculous and disappointing as this. Apparently not.
