Jipped out of UCLA& UCSD? help?

totalcaprice - You should try appealing, your stats were very similar to mine! Same GPA for 9-12 cumulative, 2190 SAT, 30 ACT (lol I hope they didn’t look at that), 3 AP tests, 400 hrs CS, but no leadership…

Just FYI, a 4.1 GPA at Davis Senior High only constitutes a ranking in the third decile (top 30%). Furthermore, a GPA of approximately 4.6 is required to secure an ELC (top 4%) spot. Somewhere around 40-50 kids (out of a class of 550) are admitted to UCLA and UCB each year from Davis (under 10% of the class), so by no means does a 4.1 guarantee admission. Around 70-80 kids (under 15% of the class) are admitted to UCSD yearly. I know that GPA is not the only consideration for admission, but it certainly has a lot to do with it I’m sure.

hinky82,
It may not be entirely your stats/application that you were not admitted. It’s a crap shoot. Remember, they had 57,000 + applicants. Think about how they go about reading and evaluating all these applicants. Your file may have been read at the end of the day and you may lose points just for that. Your reader may not have fought hard enough to get you admitted or maybe they did but the other person argued better (think of lawyers.) I don’t know how they choose. Some people get in and don’t do well and probably should not have been admitted while those that are better suited do not. There are so many people like you that were not accepted that are 100+ qualified. It may not make sense now but you’ll end up at a great school and the school that you’ll be happiest. I keep telling my kids that it’s up to them to make the best out of the college they attend. Good luck!
