JMU Fall 2011 Transfer!

accepted! :)

My son (in state) got his acceptance letter today. I thought I’d share some of his info since these postings have really helped us through the process last year and this year. He is a freshman at Clemson with a 3.7 GPA. His high school GPA was 3.8, top 10% of his class, lots of extracurricular activities (Varsity baseball, Editor of the paper, etc.), and 2 APs per year. He was accepted to JMU last year under their early notification (Jan) but declined that offer to go to CU.

I was also accepted today. I am a freshman in college and my GPA is a 3.2, my HS GPA was a 3.01, and I got a 1750 on my SATs. Hopefully this is encouraging for those who have yet to find out/are on the wait list. Good luck!

jaymei51, are you in-state or OOS?

jaymei51! That was encouraging; I’m still waiting :frowning: Hopefully my parents will get it today. I had a 3.01 in HS, have a 3.6 (soon to be 3.7) in college, and a 2000 SAT.

I am an in-state student from the NoVa area, currently attending Radford University

Accepted! See above for stats. So excited to finally have a decision from SOMEONE!!

BMDMOM, just curious why is your son leaving Clemson? My son is accepted and attending JMU, his best friend is heading to Clemson.

My parents gave me the news last night. I was accepted with a 2.875 and I am a sophomore. I attend Virginia Commonwealth University and I’m not really sure how I’m going to proceed

Nerbsmom- My son actually has decided to stay at Clemson. Initially, he was feeling like you might have to join a frat to have a social outlet (which he wasn’t interested in), he was concerned about internship/job connections in DC, and he missed home/his long-term girlfriend (a JMU student). The minute he went back for second semester, everything clicked. He and his roommate found a really great group of friends (interestingly, most are from states other than SC), he loves the atmosphere (school spirit, sports, weather), and he is happy with the business school (he is in a program called the Clemson Business Experience). He still misses home and his gf, but the breaks are long and the school year is short, so it is workable.

With all that said, from a mother’s perspective, I believe JMU has a better business school/accounting program (my son is going to major in accounting) and is a much better value for someone from VA. It is painful to pay out of state tuition!

I apologize for the long-winded reply to your question!

^BMDMOM. Thanks for the great reply and much appreciated!

hey guys! anyone else out of state hear back yet? i’m from new jersey and i didn’t get anything yesterday. by the looks of people on the message board, in state people are getting their decisions. hopefully mine comes tomorrow!! im so so anxious.

im from new york and i havent heard either! so anxious

ugh! it’s killing me! my mail comes at 1 today. so im hoping for something. i’ve literally been so anxious since yesterday when i found out people were getting their letters!

My buddy whos at a community college with a 2.8-3.0ish GPA (transferring with his degree) was denied since they did not receive all of his information on time? They had his community college transcripts, and high school, but he never took the SAT? Thought it was interesting…

that’s really odd. i’m currently a sophomore, small liberal arts school in jersey. 3.8 gpa, and over 58 credits. they were missing something from my application and they contacted me early last week and i got a confirmation that they received it via email. idk, thats strange.

Hey I’m transferring from ODU to JMU. I just got in a few days ago for Fall '11 semester. That will be my sophomore semester. I’m a male and I like to play sports and chill… If anyone else wants to get to know someone who is transferring pm me.

BTW I had a 3.86 GPA at odu.

I was accepted out-of-state today into the business school! Im transferrring from stony brook university as a sophomore with only a 3.17 gpa

ugh got waitlisted. and i took all upper level courses, but im in the process of doing my calc course, so maybe thats why? idk, ugh. jmu is one of my top schools. anyone else waitlisted?
