JMU & UVA-sister schools?

I was just wondering if JMU and UVA are sister schools as I have been hearing, and what exactly it means...Does it mean it would be easier to transfer to UVA from JMU than from a different school..?

No, it doesn't. If you're going to JMU and you'd like to transfer to UVA, shoot for a 3.5+ (which shouldn't be hard at all) and you'll have an excellent shot at UVA.

Thanks for the response cavalier.
What would I need to do in order fulfill the 24 credit hours requirement for transferring to UVA? Is it difficult to fulfill the required hours all in my first of college? Also, if I were to apply for a transfer after my first year at JMU, would my HS transcripts still be a major factor in my admittance? (I need to know if I shouldn't be falling into senioritis..) Thanks again!

You will probably take around 30 credits during your first year at JMU. If you get a good GPA, you will be very competitive for fall admission to UVA. Your high school records will be examined, but if you were close to getting in in the first place, they won't work against you.

cavalier (or anyone else), I noticed Univ. of Mary Washington gives more credit for lower AP scores (3 and aboves) than JMU does (mostly 4 or 5's needed for credit). Should I choose UMW over JMU to get more credit hours to transfer ("easily"/"smoothly") to UVA?

*btw, I will be taking 5 AP tests this May, and have taken 2 last year. I didn't really think AP tests were that impt last year (dumb xP) and got two 3's, but I'm hoping to do better this year and feel confident in perhaps...3 out of the 5 tests to get at least a 4 or so....

No, you shouldn't. You will get a sufficient number of credits wherever you go. As long as you have a solid courseload, it's about quality, not quantity. Go to JMU and get a 3.5+, and you'll have a great chance of getting into UVA. Even if you don't, you can keep it up for another year and try again for junior transfer.

Okay, sounds good.

But, just wondering...(go figure) do you think it would be worth choosing JMU over UIUC; BU; VTech..? I'm interested in journalism/advertising, both of which UIUC and BU have good programs. Only thing stopping me is the OOS tuition and a ridiculously high FAFSA EFC...

P.S. hopefully this is my last question.

lovejini: I'm also possibly turning down UIUC (where i want to go) because of the ridiculously high tuition this year and small amount of finaid. :-(

I know, it totally sucks Leah..! :(
It always seems to come down to money money moneyyy :X
