I want to land an actual job this summer, but my parents aren't really all for it. Do they have good reason? They say that it's not really necessary and I should be mainly focused on academics. Even though I'm not looking into working during the school year, since I agree that'll get pretty hectic, I don't think some job experience now would be bad. What reasons should I use to convince my parents? And what jobs should I look into?

Earning your own money and becoming more independent.

Work experience is great, but this summer? I doubt anyone’s going to hire you for what will probably amount to a month and a half. You should have been thinking about this in March or April.

So would trying to find one now would be a lost cause, huh? :(

Pretty much, if you expect to quit at the end of August.

I don’t think there would be anything wrong with getting a job now. I mean you could still work during the school year just in a smaller capacity than you could now.

Yes, it’s different if you’re willing to work during the school year. I’m just saying I don’t think you can get a strictly summer job at this point.

You could try to do things like tutoring, babysitting, cleaning/yardwork, etc. Those are things that are often more flexible and easier to do more or less depending on your schedule. It’s also something that’s easier to continue into the school year.
