Joey Cheek in everywhere but Harvard?

"Harvard might come knocking with a red face and a big ‘oops!’ "

"Why was admission tougher than ever this year at the nation’s top colleges? Probably because this was the year Olympic speedskater-turned-Darfur-activist Joey Cheek applied. Sorry, kids – your Key Club vice presidency kind of paled in comparison.

Where’d he get in? “Yale, Princeton, Columbia, NYU, Georgetown, Stanford, Duke and North Carolina,” the 26-year-old told us. But Cheek – who was famously turned down by Harvard for early admission just months before he won gold and silver and donated his earnings to Darfur charities – wouldn’t say where he’s going: He’s signed with MTV’s cable and online channel MTVU to chronicle his decision-making in a new reality series. “Joey Cheek Goes to College” will run for six episodes in the fall, with a “sneak preview” premiere May 1 – the day after he speaks at a rally on the Mall against Sudanese genocide.

Did he get rejected anywhere? “Well, I still never got Harvard.”

Byerly:
Thank you. I am following his story about college application. I am not in favor or against him. I am just curious how addmission works.

football recruit got into harvard with a 2030 SAT and a 3.6...

he was a legacy too, and apparently better than joey cheek?

Unfortunately for Joey, Harvard doesn't have a speed-skating team. Now if he could only play hockey!

ha! classic byerly...what happened to the crimson in the post season this year? I know they beat the holy hell out of my beloved Big Red!

Cheers,

they were blown out by maine in the first round, 6-1.

Check out Ted Donato's bio. He's the Harvard hockey coach. Harvard '91, member of the US Olympics team in 1988.

ECAC champs, and Ivy champs, too, after beating Cornell and Dartmouth.

(Which makes them the nation's top amateur (ie,unsalaried) team :) )
