I would argue that Hopkins does not have “Tufts Syndrome” mainly because everyone I know that applied to ivies/stanford also applied to Hopkins so their applicant pool is argueably the exact same as them - they just look for different things in how they select students. accepts/wl can be traded in and out depending on things like legacy, more emphasis on SAT, more emphasis on rank or state of residence, etc.

it’s a crap shoot at top schools and what Stanford looks for is not identical to what Hopkins or Yale looks for. Therefore, they make different decisions. That shouldn’t be interpreted as “tufts syndrome” in my opinion but rather the quality of the applicant pool and initiatives of the college…

For the people who have accepted a spot on the waitlist, how do you confirm that you have accepted a spot on the waitlist? Because when I check my e-mail and click the link, it just asks me again whether if I want to remain on the waitlist. I am sure I have accepted a spot on the waitlist when I received the decision e-mail back in April. I am just worried that I may not be considered on the waitlist because of this weird technical problem. I have sent in waitlist updates, such as my 3rd quarter grades and a letter of interest.

^Geez,I was prolly too careless to notice that thay didn’t send me a confirmation email after I accepted a place on the WL.Hmm… I guess I should ask to check,oh,good luck to all of ya’ll on the WL like I.=] I srsly will give up Cornell if JHU takes me…lol

when you check your decision mail and click the link, does it ask you whether you want to accept a spot on the wait list or confirms that you have accepted a spot? because when i click the link, it just asks me the same question again. Normally, wouldn’t the link just confirm that i have accepted a spot on the wait list instead of asking the question again?

@goodgood,when I clicked the link and chose to accept,I remember it confirmed that I accepted a place.Hmm,u seem to have met the weird technical glitch…oh,so it’s not an email thingie…ask the regional rep?,and good luck to you, goodgood!=]

I remember after clicking the yes button and then the next button, it confirmed that I accepted a place too. It’s just that today when i checked the decision e-mail I got back in late March and clicked the link, it asked me again whether I wanted to remain on the waitlist. It’s bizarre. I’m assuming the regional reps are busy at this moment, so I guess I’ll just see what happens later on when the decision comes out. Well thanks for the reply and good luck to you too =)

I did a tour and info session the other day. The admissions officer said that after accidentally ending up with a too-large freshman class this year (class 0f 2013), they admitted fewer students and plan to use the waitlist for class of 2014.

i have been in pretty close communication with one of the admissions people, and she told me that they just started processing payments & that they will have a better idea the week of the 17th

Update on Hopkins Insider: ~30 students will get in and they’ll be making calls starting tomorrow afternoon. Good luck everyone! I just clicked that I was staying on and I have no expectation at all, so I hope someone here get in!

JHU - Admissions Daniel said “starting today afternoon”. Wonder which timezone afternoon would it start from? If PST then it would be from 3.00pm for EST guys. Whatever it is - good luck to all.
