In mid July my AO told me that they don’t anticipate to use the waitlist ‘significantly’ . The most recent message on the thread said we are still under ‘consideration’, so we have to reconcile the differences between these two statements and hold our expectations somewhere in the middle. Also, they said that we will be notified before the start of the academic year on the waitlist process concluding.
From the JHU website:
First-Year and Transfer Move-In: Saturday, August 21 – Sunday, August 22
Returning Students Move-In: Thursday, August 26 – Friday, August 27
I’m guessing anyone that got off the waitlist would move in with the returning students later this week.
JHU parent here. Sorry that you guys have to wait this long. I know how that feels. I just moved in my child yesterday. We need to pay by 8/26. I suspect you will hear the final word very shortly after that. If you get accepted, I guess you probably have very little time to accept or decline, as JHU is just as eager to end this whole process. I suggest you all map out your plans right now under both scenarios, and just follow your plan rationally and unemotionally. Best luck to you all. The entire US college admissions system is so inefficient.
Just the thought of having to wait till the end of this week is tough, really hoping we hear something on Monday but the last comment’s logic makes sense too
That makes sense. But I wonder how it would work if we only hear back the 27th, I guess we would move in after everyone else. Either way, this waitlist is going down in history I feel like.
Hi guys. I emailed my regional counselor asking about events available for the waitlisted students. Here is her answer:
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for reaching out. At this time we do have a full first year class and do not anticipate going to our wait list. We will go to the wait list if we have students who leave the first year class, but that is not guaranteed. At this time any presentation that we are hosting can be registered for on our visit page.
I’m not really sure what to make of this. Every response we’ve gotten from our regional counselors has been some cookie-cutter response about their class being full or if there are any updates to our admissions status we will be notified via email. It doesn’t seem like most of our regional admissions counselors know very much about the waitlist. This email seems to be another one of those cookie-cutter responses. Also, them mentioning the presentations on the JHU visit page doesn’t make any sense, because those are all JHU info sessions for students who haven’t applied and have nothing to do with the waitlist or orientation. In my personal experience, none of the regional counselors I’ve contacted seem to have any insight on the waitlist. The only response I’ve gotten that offered any sort of update was directly from the gotojhu email that said students on the waitlist are still under consideration.
I just find it hard to believe that JHU would leave the waitlist open even after first-year students have moved in if they don’t plan to take anyone from the waitlist. They did the same thing last year and took some students off around this time, so I would think at least a few people would get in this year as well. Otherwise they could’ve saved themselves a lot of emails by letting us know a long time ago.
Best of luck to everyone. I know we’ve been saying this for months but this whole thing has to end soon.
In July, you accepted a spot on the summer extended wait list at Johns Hopkins University. At this time, we are closing the wait list and do not anticipate admitting any additional students to the class this year.
We appreciate your interest in Hopkins and wish you all the best in your college career.
Sincerely,
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Johns Hopkins University
I guess it really is over. We made it through and I have no doubt you all will do amazing things :))
