Johns Hopkins vs notre dame?

Which is best if I want to end up on Wall Street. I know Johns Hopkins is harder to get into and thought of a bit more prestigiously, but notre dame has the best undergrad business school. Also, Hopkins only has an Econ department which is above average but not spectacular. Thoughts?

Neither really. Between the two, I would probably go with ND, but you’ll find it hard to go from the midwest to wall street. Take a look at schools with top business schools in the northeast. The best undergraduate B-schools at Wall Street placement out of undergrad are typically Penn, MIT, NYU, UVA, Cornell and BC.

Johns Hopkins probably has an edge between the two due to regional bias. That edge might be small though and is probably not a good reason to select one school over another.

Hopkins traditionally has sent relatively few grads to Wall Street because relatively few Hopkins students are interested in Wall Street careers (except, for some reason, former lacrosse players; there is a considerable network of former Hop laxers at Wall Street firms). Most Hopkins grads becomes doctors, lawyers, diplomats, professors, scientists and engineers. Some do go into business, but it is a minority.

A notable exception is Mike Bloomberg, who seems to have done pretty well on Wall Street. I think he is now worth something like $25 billion.

If you are really sure that Wall Street’s your thing and you don’t play lacrosse, I’d try to go to Penn (Wharton in particular) or Dartmouth.

I would lean slightly towards ND because of the education/opportunities the business school can offer as compared to an economics program (which is a liberal arts course of study). But the schools are pretty equivalent academically so assuming the costs would be about the same at either place think about which school you will be happier at. East coast v Midwest? City school v more suburban? Big time sports or not? Greek like or not? Catholic school or not? Go where you feel most comfortable and excited about and you will have the greatest chance for success.

This is an old thread and the op has chosen JHU it appears, so I’m not sure why this thread was bumped. Check business week for placement and you will see notre dame does well in consulting but not so well in finance. As far as business academics, Notre dame should be a bit better in business given JHU does not have a full time selective undergraduate business school. JHU has the better academics across the board in engineering, science, humanities, etc. however. I wouldn’t consider the overall academics to be on par in that regard at all
