June 08 World History

yea james is right

The women's rights one was who LIMITED them. Answer: Khomeni

The fascism one was something like "The doctrine of fascism includes A. free trade B. that liberal democracy was a greater threat to fascism than communism......"

As for the hunter gatherer one, it doesn't matter because I'm sure we're all intelligent enough to pick "little social stratification" or "no complex institutions" or whaever the answer was.

The unification of Germany asked what did was not brought about by the unification. The only choices I remember were WWI?, colonialism in Africa, and the French 3rd republic.

The Dutch question was talking about what country was waning while the Dutch were rising.

The 1930's question asked what brought the most tension between US and Mexico: granting asylum to Trotsky, a one party system in Mexico, land reform, US seizing oil fields in Mexico, and something else.

Dole is right - the queen Elizabeth one talked about how imperial rivalries between Spain and England affected trade. Also, the British doc talked about merchantilism.

48. What marked the end of the French Revolutionary Period? The Congress of Vienna.

Was that a question? I don't even remember that at all.

29 more...

The Vienna question is from a released test, not on the one we took.

Islamic society allowed: Jews and christians to practice their religion with some restircitons(exact same question on Barron's aka the holy study guide)

are you sure the jewish zionist one was nationalism? irredentalism means something about taking back a land that is rightfully yours so doesn't that make sense too?

there was also a question about the dominant religion of Slavs. I put Orthodox Christ. there was also Roman Catholic, Judaism, and some others...

No, Plastine is not rightfully a jewish homeland. Even in the Bible, there were people living in canaan area before the Hebrews(?) came. The UN basically gave Jews the country.
so 64. dominant religion of slavs: eastern orthodox

I'm pretty sure the fascism one (#60) was extreme nationalism. The fascist nations did not consider liberal democracies to be threats at all (England and France were suffering tremendously during the 20s and 30s), but Hitler and Mussolini both used the threat of communism to maintain support in their nations.

I'm pretty sure that the zionism answer is nationalism. I googled "zionism irredentalism", and nothing at all came up (besides one website about palestinian irredentalism in israel). However, when I googled "zionism nationalism", the first site that came up discusses how zionism has always been rooted in nationalism since it became a movement in Europe.

And yeah, the slavs generally followed orthodox christianity

darn it - i put nationalism first but then changed it :(

for the hunter-gatherer society, i put that the people spent many hours obtaining food....isn't that true? i mean, yeah, there was less distinction but both are pretty accurate.

unification of germany: i put french 3rd republic?

more ?'s:

which religion emphasized individual + society: confucianism
japanese quote about empress most showed the effects of which? answers were confucianism, shintoism, bushido, etc. i put confucianism
first question about ibn battuta travels: women were treated differently in diff regions

religion based on individual and their role in society: confucianism

japan document: it should be confucianism, because it was talking about how the older guy should rule before the younger guy (I think)

german unification: I had no idea, I said 3rd Republic which is wrong - maybe it was "european customs union"

another question was a map of trading posts in the indian ocean - I said portugal, because of macao and mozambique

Yeah, i put they worked long hours too... I forgot, but was there even a choice on social instratification?

The unification of germany was which was NOT a effect of Germany Unification. I thought it was an immediate arms race.

The japan doc was confucianism, and i forgot battuta

Edit: Dolewhip: i didn't study Germany at all, but i remember a customs union was made in Germany to help German economy.

59: i think that was an answer choice. but i put that they wanted to put their own leaders in power or something, probably wrong...

hunter gather: yeah, one was like less emphasis on social class distinctions or something

for european influences in 2000, i put southern africa. mandela issues/equality lasted until the mid 1990's plus the debeers company still mines diamonds and stuff, right? why caribbean?

mex vs america: the choices were like one-party system, US problem w/ mex land reforms, etc, many mex. immigrants to US. i put one-party system but that might be wrong...

also, was one question: why was the great wall built? (or was this a practice test?)

another question: why was justinian important: he created law systems that influenced europe

was there a question on hammurabi's code? like it gave a quote about 'eye for eye, etc"?

The question was something like "In which region do European powers still possess territory as of 2000?" It would be Caribbean because there are many islands possessed by the British, French, and Dutch today (British Virgin Islands, Netherlands Antilles, some of the St. islands are French territories, etc).

I dunno.. I really thought long hrs gathering food made sense.. That was the cause to the social stratifcation i felt... Since if people have to work very hard.. everyone must be a member of society, and that means social stratifcation is less important.

Quote about Ibn Battuta and his travel: Women in his country were not allowed to entertain.
-I'm not sure that was the answer. I re-read the quote like twice. it was about his wife, sitting on a pillow, she wasn't entertaining, i dont think. i think it was about something about having women present. or something like that.

Question about the successer to the throne of Japan: women in the upper levels of society had some impact on politics.
-i'm not sure on this one either. because, simply, it talked about the empress. I mean, empress is a little more than SOME impact on politics, right?

Mexican War with America: ????
-pretty sure thats oil. none of the other answers rung any bells. I know mexico nationalized all of its oil way back when, and the US had oil rights. so yeah.

Not sure on 63 either. That one was for the most part true, i think, but i think one of the questions said something about the islamic empire spreading to northern africa. which, of course, it did.

Choices A and B are out automatically (they both said "women had no rights in morocco/arabia"). The two choices that stood out to me were "women couldn't entertain foreign men in morocco" and "women could go where they pleased in the oases of the sahara". I felt like the first choice was supported better because ibn battuta was talking about how in morocco women would not be socializing with men as friends. Also, the woman was outdoors but she was on a couch under a canopy, so it doesn't imply that she can go wherever she wants.

As Islam continued to spread, Jews and Christians were allowed to practice their religion with some restrictions. "Islam spread to Northern Africa" and "Jews and Christians could practice with some restrictions" seem like answers to 2 different questions, because they are both right. In the context of the question, I was confident with the answer of Jews and Christians being allowed to practice.

23,44 fixed
63 is correct for sure, because the EXACT SAME question was on Barron's

tsh1226 - there were 3 questions about Ibn Battuta. 1 was based on a map, and two of them were based on that reading. so while the new answer for 23 is correct, we still need to figure out the last ibn battuta question (what did the reading indicate about women).

also, there are 2 questions with a supposed answer of confucianism. any validation yet?

the one with the wife talking to a man in Morocco? that's 23
