ah..ppl.....i think it IS possible to say that cell walls explode...(theres a reason i think that..)...cause saying that the results are comparable is like....i dunno..just makes no sense..anyways i got a question for all you ppl answer this plz..(something similar was on the finals at my school and i need to know what is the answer..)

10) You are shoveling snow in the middle of a snowstorm and all of a sudden you begin to shiver. Why?
A) Shivering increases heat production to closer match the heat loss.
B) Shivering acts as a reflex action stimulated by the sight of snow.
C) The flow of heat to the environment is exceeding metabolic heat production.
D) Only A and B are correct.
E) A, B, and C are correct

(o and state why) Thanks...

i put B because i don't think you can conclude that the cell walls exploded. It doesn't neccessarily have to do with hypertonic/hypotonic pressure ...

lol i think u guyz didnt read the questions rite..anyways can somebody PLEASE answer the above question i posted?

First of all, if you are shoveling snow, you probably will not start shivering. In fact, you will probably get quite warm. When you STOP shoveling is when you get cold.

If option A is correct, optionc C has to be correct also. Option B is incorrect. Therefore, as written, there is no one correct answer for the question, and the question itself is bogus.

ok thanks ...just one more thing though..is Shivering simlulated by the sight of SNow?

It seems like most people took M....

For the waste question in the E section, I put starvation of nutrients, but I really don't think it's right. I also think I killed the RNA/DNA section. I know I have at least 4 wrong already, and I left 2 blank.

i took the E section and i thought it was pretty hard. what was the answers to the plant question. plant A was using plant B...?

According to kaplan's grading scale, you can get 10-15 wrong/omit 5, and still make around 780!

And in barron's, the same score gives you about 740, if you miss 10 and omit 5. Missing 10, omitting none = 770. missing 20, omitting none = 710.

That's really really lenient guys . .

did any one get snake for one of the answers. the choices were snake, lizard, turtle, ..? snake was the only one without legs.

Ecoli experiment conclusion
a) solution 3 destroys cell walls of bacteria
b) solution 2 and water control are comparable

answer: B

Mutant 2 could NOT produce galacisodase no matter what because

i put amino acid sequence for that gene was incorrect
they had the same answer with nucleotide sequence instead of amino acid

albino plant- showed the dependence since it could produce seeds but could not engage in photosynthesis (no pigments) so it leeched off all plant II's nutrients.

Feel free to agree/disagree, but let's try to come to a conclusion. Add as you remember. I'll later try to distinguish between M and E.

plant in dark constantly for 24 hours?

some answer = cat

sewage added to lake
answer = killed the O2 in the water

plant in dark constantly for 24 hours?
I. respiration
II. photosynthesis
III. calvin (dark) cycle

answer = calvin cycle, respiration

I'm pretty sure it was only respiration.. because the Calvin Cycle can't occur in the dark, if I remember correctly.

the (dark) was written as is. . wasn't it written in parenthesis on the test?

[quote]
The Calvin Cycle, earlier designated the photosynthetic "dark reactions" pathway, is now referred to as the carbon reactions pathway. In this pathway, the free energy of cleavage of ~P bonds of ATP, and reducing power of NADPH, are used to fix and reduce CO2 to form carbohydrate.

Yes, dark reactions is another name for the Calvin Cycle, but the name is misleading: the Calvin Cycle cannot not occur without products from the LIGHT reactions, so if there was no light in the experiment, that means no light reactions and no products for the Calvin Cycle to occur with. Therefore, no Calvin Cycle.

At least, it says the Calvin Cycle cannot occur without light in the Cliffs Book. [shrug]

Aww damn . . . trick question :(

Thanks for clearing up though

For one question, the answer was pituitary gland secretes FSH
There were two other questions on hormones but I forget them

tRNA carries the amino acids to the ribosomes during protein synthesis
mRNA carries the coded instructions from the DNA
RNA polymerase puts together the mRNA or something like that

there was a question that talked about the pancreas secreting insulin and I think the answer was negative feedback or something like that

there was a question on the M section where it asked what enzymes are: they are proteins

All I can remember for now, I'll try to remember more later.

Thanks bestyanks, keep them coming!

uhh... i have Qs for these specific ones:
significance of mitosis?

answer: bring a copy of each chromosome to each cell
(my friend claims that this is wrong, b/c this is MEIOSIS)

and i thought that trisomy in a gamete would be 25. remember, a gamete is HAPLOID.... ??
