June 2006 - World History

young_one, the college board book says a raw score of 80 is 800? So i can get like 10 wrong and still get a 800?

according to the scale for the old sat 2 in the blue book (although it may different for this test, it probably is a similiar scale)

yes, i was surprised too by the very lenient scale

There were a question on there that didnt have an answer and I just checked my facts and I think I am right? Someone feel free to correct me....

The question asks of the following countries had a female leader.

Of course, India had one in Ghandi but China also had a female leader in the modern age in Soong Ching-Ling, she served as the the head of the state from 1968-1972 along with Dong Wu.

Uh, I;m pretty sure that the cataract question on the Nile was a trap answer; those were a hindrance to society I think in some ways.

I remember the big thing about the Nile was that it flooded so vastly, and the fact that Wikipedia even has a section devoted to the importance of the flooding of the nile makes that the correct answer.

For the map I could not decide between Ottoman and Byzantine but then I looked above the map, which hopefully made the answer obvious: It actually gave the date as 530 CE, and since the Ottoman Empire would not exist for almost another millenium...

I got around ~12 wrong, ahhh i'm on the edge.

Pakistan had a female leader.
India had a female leader.
Who else was in that answer?

India-Pak-Philipines all had very famous female leaders 199 percent sure

Wow, that test was really hard. Does that mean the curve will be generous? I omitted 6 or 7 and guessed for another 10 or so... ahh! I knew I should've stuck to math and science tests.

You think, by any chance, the curve will change to 13 wrong=800?

Yea, that test was horrible...., waffle, so you put byzantine for the map?, hope thats right cause thats what i put. Dont really know much about my dates, i kinda just picked byzantine on a whim.

On the map, the only one that made chronological and some geological sense was the Byzantine empire... were they into Italy though? I know they had control of the Mediterranean because of a strong navy.

Did the map include North Africa? Def. Byzantine, I can't believe I didn't look at the time period.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Roman_Empire_about_395.jpg

the gandhara buddha was influenced by greek art. i studied it in art history...you could tell by the draped and folded toga-like clothing. i didn't even look at the other answer choices...

someone asked about the roman arch. it was the arch of titus, built to honor his accomplishments..the answer was something like that.

i thought it was pretty easy and i haven't taken AP world for a year. sweet.

I think it included some areas on the border of Africa...

agggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg!

Who did you guys put for the q about imperialism being the highest form of capitalism?
I guessed and put kipling...
p.s., but im not sure if this q was on Wh test or ush, so dont be disturbed if you dont remember this q.

Lenin or the last guy.

Yeah, Lenin added to Marxist theory that imperialism was a form of capitalism so more countries were considered "enemies".

I'm just going to answer everything asked up until now.

The Egyptian geography question was a trap. I put down deserts because it forces the Egyptians to water, but I was really iffy. Cataracts didn't do anything really, they're just waterfalls in the south that stop you from getting on your rowboat.

Socrates emphasized self-analysis.

Brahmans were India's priest/scholar caste.

Britain's primary cotton sources: US, India.

Female leaders: India, Pakistan, Phillipines.

I missed the Ghandaran question. It's Mesopotamia, I think.

The Kush were good with iron.

The map was Byzantine. Justinian made a foray into Italy that didn't last too long.

Lenin said "Imperialism is highest form of capitalism." I missed this one, it was a throw between this guy and Keynes, who actually wrote on imperialism and funding post-Depression.

I think I missed 4 so far. Total. Lol.

My Questions:
What was special about Roman slaves?

How did Roman conquerors appease newly-added regions? I was torn between adopting language and granting the elite citizenship.

When did Sub-Saharan Africa get iron?

The Janissaries were recruited via devshirme in the Christian Balkans, right?

The Sepoy Rebellion transferred control of India to the Crown, right?

The Napoleonic Wars reestablished the status quo amongst monarchies, right? It was that or it made France the most powerful nation; but I was assuming that's wrong because it's too extreme, especially since the British kicked their asses at Trafalgar and Waterloo while the Russians left Napoleon on the long march home.

^
I think Roman slaves were mostly from conquered lands, or something to that effect.

Yes, Janissaries were from the Balkans.

Sepoy Rebellion transferred India to British govt. control.

Napoleanic Wars ended w/ power balance re-established by conservative powers.
