June 2009 - Biology

For the first set was mutualism used twice, commensalism, and altruism?

and ichurki, what increased and decreased?

also, i guessed on the question about the effects of adding an TAT mRNA inhibitor

Yes. I can’t remember the precise order, but I remember mutualism being used twice. Mimicry and parasitism weren’t used.

so the second question - when PCTH decreases…blood calcium…
I was thrown off by the graph compared to what I know about PCTH. I chose “increased” just based off the graph

“I believe the plant one went “photosynthesis, phototaxis, photoperiod, phototropism, photoperiod”. Photorespiration was not used.”
^ thanks Keasbey Nights; that’s would I got.

A decrease in PTH would cause a subsequent decrease in blood calcium.

same ichiruki!
the graph conflicted with my prior knowledge of parathomone or w/e it’s called so i just picked increase :(

I think for the first set it went:
mutualism (bird) - altruism (“more conspicuous”) - commensalism (follow behind an animal) - mutualism (ant)

yea same ichiruki, the graph was done very strangely. The whole time I was thinking that calcitonin decreases the blood calcium levels, but the graph was contradictory. Personally, I think those questions should be thrown out.

guys
i odn’t think the embargo has been lifted
we should stop

Correct, silverlining.

I truly don’t understand how that graph worked. As PTH decreases and then calcium INCREASED in the BLOOD according to the graph. so I chose increase. I am somehow hoping the entire question was wrong and we all get the points lol.

Does anyone remember a question about a piece of phloem (?) turning into a full plant?
And tapeworms?

And once again, you have to read the graph correctly. Calcium levels were on the X-axis (independent variable), while PTH levels were on the Y-axis (dependent variable). Because calcium levels dropped, PTH levels would go up.

Yes silverling93, that’s what I got.

and peacsnapple yes it has “Embargo on June 2009 SAT Discussion lifted.”

wait, the embargo lifted on June 2009 SAT post . Upon further review, it says GCF posted it on 01-24-2009. what is going on? if it’s not lifted, i’ll stop talking about it, but I think we’re all confused.

Fertilizers add inorganic compounds into soil right ??

The body of the post itself was last edited on January 24th, but the title was edited recently. Plus, I’m pretty sure that it was just put up; when I looked this morning, the embargo-lifting post was not stickied.

^Yes. I think it’s same. The month and date are right so it’'s safe I presume.

nss - yes.
could we talk about the theory of modern evolution one?
and Mendel is the father of genetics because…QA experiment?

Mendel is the father because he was the first to quantiatively study genetics, of course.
