June 2010 Math

Yes apricorn, that’s correct. Think about it as x= 1,000 and y=.00001

1,000 + 1/.00001 = a big number.

For the 2a + 3b=10, what is a-b
I did
2a=-3b+10
a=-3/2b + 5
Substitute into a-b: -5/3b+5
-5/3b=-5
b=3

So that is wrong then, it is 0? Dangit.

Oh damn it is x + 1/y. I can’t read. I put that as the answer lol.

Wait was the original 0 < 1/x < 1 or was it 0 < 1/y < 1?

9970 im such a dumb*** 9961 this might cost an 800

nvm 10char

1/X was the original

0 < 1/x < 1
0 < y < 1

1/y (yield number > 1) and x (also number > 1).

@jolly, plug in number or use some common sense.

Say X = 2 and Y = .5 (these meet the criteria)

x + 1/x = .5 + 2 = 2.5

1/y + x = 2 + 2 = 4.

So it has to be 1/y + x.

Also, can someone remind me of the parabola one that’s answer was 8.
I can’t seem to remember it…

not as bad a mistake as me when i changed my answer from 3 root 2 to 3 root 3 on the mc … now im going to fail math… get a 770 :frowning: last time i got only 730 im may for 3 wrong grid in’s (i was sick, needed lots of tissues, distracted) anyhowz i think i might of done worse… now i think i got 2 mc wrong and 1 grid in wrong… any predictions on score

nah jolly

Say x=10, and Y=0.5

10 + 1/0.5 = 12, which would have been the highest result if you plugged those #s in for all of them.

Damnit anim4l I put 9961 too! Damnit!

@ jollybjolly
~ ok so i think it twas like this … gave point (0,2)… and tangent to x axis at 2,0 and we had to find a in the vertex for which is y=a(x-b)

AHHHHHH great.
what letter choice was that

jolly i think you mean x + 1/y

X cannot be 10 because it has to be between 0 and 1.

If it’s 0 < 1/x < 1 then the answer was definitely x + 1/y
if its 0 < 1/y < 1 then the answer is y + 1/x
can’t remember which one it was ■■■

sorry I don’t remember the letter choice.

Perhaps you mixed up 1/x with 1/y when you posted it?

edit:

X cannot be 10 because it has to be between 0 and 1.

no, just that 1/x is a decimal, ie 1/10.

Right???

^ omggg i put down 9970 for the 4 digit greatest iteger question thing…so i got it right then??! i kinda guessed & checked it :)

math wasn’t too bad since it’s easier for me…but a hand full of questions got me along with some of the graph qs…

but i got ****ed off when i forgot how to solve a probm hat i was pretty sure i solved similar to back in algebra 2… it was the temp. & ft q in the MC section…

how do you go about solving it again??! if you have to find the estimate the temp change along with the ft?? dont remember exactly how it went…but if anyone remembers??!).

I left like 10 blank…im feeling like ****t right about now.

It was 0 < 1/x < 1. The answer was choice D.
