how is the answer 4 * 6 * 8 = 192 it said before that, that a rectangle had an area of 40 and the only way one could get that is with a 5. that would make it 6 * 8 * 5 = 240 or am i wrong on this one?

Thats what I did, but general consensus here says that is wrong.

what is their reasoning behind it?

how is the answer 4 * 6 * 8 = 192 it said before that, that a rectangle had an area of 40 and the only way one could get that is with a 5. that would make it 6 * 8 * 5 = 240 or am i wrong on this one?

The rectangle was formed by the diagonal & the height of the prism thing.

Since it was a 8, 6 triangle the diagonal was 10.
Area was 40 so height is 4.

4 * 6 * 8 =192

^^ you’re wrong, they gave you the 6 and 8 as the sides of the bottom rectangle. they gave you the area of the rectangle that would cut the rectangular box in half. so pythagorean theorem gives you a side length of 10, and 104 = 40. so 46*8

goldysocks - “^^Well, 8 of them got five; and there were only 5 more people in the class, so even if they all got the same score it would still be fewer than 8. So five was definitely the mode.”

But IIRC, 8 got a five and 7 got a four. So if the unknown 5 got a four also, wouldn’t the mode then be 4? In which case, the correct answer was II only?

marjerina - “^ I think it asked for minimum value. In which case, x=0.”

They asked for f(x), so wouldn’t that be the value of the function? The x-value is 0, yes, but f(x) = -4, isn’t that what they wanted? -4?

Yes, they wanted -4.

Darkwasthenight - Yea, I put down -4! It was A, right? I just remember that x was supposed to be 0 :)

Also, for the test one with the 8 got 5 and 7 got 4, the questions specifically said “exactly 8 students got a 5, and exactly 7 got a 4” meaning that none of the remaining 5 could get an 4 or 5.

does anyone remember the answer for the cookies problem? wasnt it x(c+b)?? and does anyone remember the letter for the answers to the pentagon/volume problems?

Ah, that’s a case of a stupid misunderstanding then with the 20 student thing. I make a lot of mistakes like that, I hate it.

“Yes, they wanted -4.”

^ wasn’t this question experimental?

“does anyone remember the answer for the cookies problem? wasnt it x(c+b)?”

I think it was c + xb.

The answer was in cookies… X is number of cookies per box (b).

Which section was experimental? |D

I know I had 4 so one of them was.

does anyone remember the answer for the cookies problem? wasnt it x(c+b)?? and does anyone remember the letter for the answers to the pentagon/volume problems?

^
c + xb, since one girl sold c cookies and the other sold b boxes of x cookies.

I can’t remember the letters though. :/

ben120, it wasn’t experimental.

Can someone predict my score with -4 MC, -2 Fill In, and 1 omit…

awesome thank you soo much…you hve put my mind at east :D

^ no one of them sold cookies individually, other sold boxes exclusively

it was c cookies and x boxes of b cookies, so you have c cookies, and xb cookies: a total of c + xb cookies.

the pentagon question’s answer was (E), (7/9)c
