June 2010: World History

So was it Islam? lol

I took a different copy, sicne I had it today due to my accomodations. I think I did really well, I looked up some of the ones I didn’t know and I got most right. :)

I thought that the test was pretty easy; I omitted a couple and got around three of them wrong according to this thread.

And wasnt there a question that had something to do with Almoravida and Mali?

Oh and then there was this map that showed Polynesian migrations.

Somebody needs to answer the main religion before 1300 question! :)

I put Christianity, mainly because Christianity was the main religion in Europe as well as one of the major religions in the Middle East along with Islam (because the Ottomans hadn’t taken over yet.)

Well sure, but Islam was in southern Spain, north Africa, the Middle East, Persia, India…

Pretty sure Islam- answer choice was Roman Catholcism, which by that point was only in Western Europe (or Orthodox in Eastern). Either way, you have Islam spanning across almost 2-3 continents, thus I went with Islam

Islam, handily. Islam was widespread in Spain, North Africa, West Africa, East Africa, Turkey, the Near East, Iran, Central Asia, Russia, India, and Indonesia by that point, with a secondary presence in Mongolia and China. Christianity was in Europe and Russia, with a trace presence dotting the way from Syria to Israel to India to China.

I went with Islam. It was extremely widespread across many continents while Christianity was widespread but limited to Europe for the most part.

I think we already answered this one, but what was the one with the Dutch in Japan? Was it because they gave them weapons. I just assumed that because of Shogun: Total War, actually…

Some people said it was because they just traded and didn’t impress their ideas on them, but I don’t think that’s right, because there was a whole paragraph in my world history textbook about the Japanese and “Dutch Learning”, and the fact that I’m pretty sure a ton of the Dutch got thrown out because Japan viewed their spread of Christianity as a threat. I think I chose the weapons options, but through POE, not because I know the answer for sure

but the Dutch were known for their religious tolerance

The Dutch were known for their religious tolerance, and I think that that question wanted to make us realize the connection.

I just did background reading too. It was because they didn’t want to impose their religion on them.

The Dutch just concentrated on trading with Japan and did not seek to convert the Japanese, which is why they were allowed to trade.

Barrons agrees with this as well.

It was because they were only interested in trade. I remember doing this question over and over again…
