Why did the Japanese let the Dutch stay in Japan?
(A) countered the threat of Spanish influence, lol
(B) provided advanced weaponry
(C) focused on trading instead of religion
(D) intermarried with the Japanese
(E) practiced Calvinism, which the shoguns liked

i thought it was southeast asia because of the mongols, and the time period fit… also i said dutch were allowed because they focused on trade. i think its right- the only other viable option would be the weapons one. but i dont think they needed weapons really, cuz no one was attacking them… ?

Bah, pastoral I guessed Western US for the Sioux and such.

Thought Dutch were not converting Japanese.

Had no idea about the Carolingian decline (the 1 I didn’t answer), but I googled it and got nobles usurping them? All I knew was it split into Lotharingia (which got killed by other 2), Kingdom of Franks, and Kingdom of Germans, but that wasn’t an answer :(

I thought the test wasn’t terrible, but I hope the curve is really generous anyways :p

i thought incas were confined to the western border of the continent, and aztecs were constantly conquering neighbors and such so i put aztecs… very unsure though :(

@pzowie: the Mongols never conquered Vietnam, so I think for the most part the Mongols weren’t in southeast Asia?

@AustroHungarians: so is treacherous nobles the answer? I changed it from that to bad crop harvests. I don’t even get that question since I thought the Treaty of Verdun split the empire after Charlemagne’s grandsons fought over it.

@horusb: I’m pretty sure it was B, tried to spread revolutionary ideals to other countries, since none of the other choices made sense.

Both the French and Bolshevik Revolution sought to spread its ideas. France, by declaring war on European monarchies like Austria, and Russia by seeking to “unite the workers of the world.”

@horusb: I don’t remember the answer choices for that question haha.

@pzowie: The map of Germany was during WWII, before its invasion of the Soviet Union, and the political cartoon was that the SU’s reforms made Eastern European nations desire independence.

Edit: Yep now I remember that I put Greek texts were translated into Arabic, too. :)
