June 4 2011 SAT Reasoning Post-Test Discussion

What did u guys have as an essay question? I see other ones relating to achievement? mine was about loyalty and if it can have negative effects on people…

Would 1 wrong be a 770? (like in SAT II math 1) or a 790? (according to my college board book)

I will find the person who decided on the loyalty prompt and will kick them very hard in the groin region…

It was my first try, I was quite nervous so I missed a few questions… Will it be bad if I skipped around 8 questions but did well on the others?

What were the answers to:

The math question about the sheet with area 300

The triangle with two sides that add up to double the other.

I’ve been reading this thread and have noticed a lot of people talking about certain questions being in the “experimental” section. What exactly does this mean?

@chemistrywarrior You’d probably pull of a 740 - 780.

I missed 2 grid ins and 3 MC because I was careless. I’m probably going to end up with a 700 - 720

@bmr0127 the experimental section is the section that isn’t scored.

The experimental sections are the sections of the SAT test that don’t count towards your total score. Collegeboard puts them in the tests to try out new questions and see how people will do on them. They can either be writing, critical reading, or math.

@vvip002, i appreciate the generousness, but i think its lower. I missed 3 mc, left 2 mc blank, and missed an additional 2 grid ins (although there is no penalty for those). I got 650 last time i took it, and i think that this time 660-700 is more reasonable. correct me if im wrong lol

can someone give me an approx. score of what i will get in each section if i left out four answers in math, and got two wrong.

and if i got 5 or 6 questions wrong in reading?

Can someone discuss the CR sections in more depth. I found the section about oral verse written gossip to be extremely difficult. I dont remember specific questions, but if someone can help me out itd be much appreciated since i took the test this time just to improve my CR score (660 last time, 9 wrong)

I can answer anyones Math questions except the Max value one (i put A, but i dont remember the options well enough to justify it)

the max value one was B, right?

i said A. if you are talking about max value the constant shouldnt matter if there is any difference in the rest of the equation. All answers B-E produced a “-4x” term after i think all the other had the same x^2 terms. I may have misread it, but that is how i read it

For that math one, it was -(X+2)^2 + (2) ^2 . at x= -2 y =4 that was the max. I graphed it .

I just plugged in each answer into my calculator and graphed them. ** yielded the highest number, so I don’t see how I could be wrong.

Also, to determine maximum using algebra you have to do (-b/2a), or put it in vertex form. Or take 1st derivative.

it may have been B , i’m not sure. But the max was 4 and the equation was the one posted above.

@chemwarrior: I think the question just said in which of the following can you pick 2 sides and their sum = twice the length of the third side. not in which of the following do 2 sides = twice the length of the 3rd. I think the difference is that you need to be able to pick ANY two sides and it = twice the length of the 3rd. soo it should be only II

It was C for the max problem.

Who remembers if the bees were representative of citizens or recipients? I put E, recipients…and the writer’s block comparison with child birth or finding a mate?
