Junior - Tulane, Boston, Miami, others

Hi i'm a high school junior, my parents and i are thinking about colleges...
I have a 3.8 gpa unweighted (4.0 something weighted) and take a lot of AP classes (passed 2/2 tests in sophomore year with 5s)

My projected ACT score is in the 30s
My PSAT was a 1400

Extracirricular activities aren't too many...and I'm not sure where employment comes in and such...

In ninth grade I was in traveling basketball
I ran track
Piano, passed a theory and playing test put on by an organization

10th grade
I was a referee for childrens basketball games (paid)
I ran track
piano, passed a few more tests, recitals, etc.

11th grade
worked briefly for four months at the beginning of the year
piano, passed exams
referee for basketball games
[will] run track and i will letter...i had the time just not the points sophomore year (i go to a big school)

12th probably a continuation, not that it matters

I've been looking at schools such as Tulane, Miami FL, Sewanee in the south...Boston U, Syracuse, in the northeast...am i on the right track? im just concerned because my activities aren't really associated with my school...also im in the top 17% of my class, i go to a competitive, large, and diverse school

u should do more clubs.... get some leadership. i think ur academics are very good though

bump-------------------

Sewanee is a match/safety for you
Tulane is a match
Boston U--the scores are going up, but would call it a realistic reach (maybe a match, depends on your high school/level of difficulty.)

Syracuse--a match

Try to do some kind of leadership work--whether at school, community or a job.

I think that you are on the right track. I would recommend also applying to one rolling admission school that is a safety for you. That way you will know early in your senior year that you are accepted to college and won't stress out when you are sending in your other apps.

Good luck

My highschool is 650 in the nation, and I take all honors or AP courses, so I figure I should be fine there...I was planning on volunteering to coach a childrens basketball team, would that show any sort of leadership?

volunteering to coach a team could be seen as leadership.

my daughter attached a resume to her college apps, I would suggest doing that, it can help explain your ecs.

my ecs aren't that impressive though...would I still want to explain them?

bump--------------

I agree with meredesfilles... you're pretty much on traget or above most of the schools you said. Umm... dont forget about the writing portion though, as a junior that'll affect you...

I'm a great writer...no problem...on my AP tests I've received 9s...my MC is what killed me haha, so I'm ok. Thank you very much :) I feel so out of place in this site...crazy overachieving Yale people
