JUNIORS - Need to apply to SLS now

Greetings --

Keep any news you all might get coming; I'd love to hear from everyone ...

I sent my application in 22 December and haven't heard back yet; I've been thinking that maybe the whole "7 business day" deal refers to time during the actual school-year, so, considering we just came out of the holiday off-season, the seven days began last week?

We shall see; in any case, please message with any news!

Cheers,
Chackster

When did the schools in the United States start?

I start in a week or so

I go back on Tuesday, January 10.

My first day back was on January 4, 2006.

I have a question for those who applied for this years SLS. Did you get any kind of e-mail or notice that your application went through? My daughter (Navy_Hornet) applied for the SLS a few days after it opened and has heard nothing. She applied for the Air Force Academy SS and received an e-mail in about 30 seconds thanking her for her application.

We've both been away from this forum for a while, busy with work, school and the holidays, so I'm going to have to try to catch up.

No email. There is a confirmation notice right after you submit the application (if not, it failed). Notification after that point is by US mail.

Yes, I received that instant-reply notification e-mail for both AFA SS and WP SLS. If you didn't receive it, it must have got lost in cyberspace (unlikely) or the application didn't make it through to them. I'd try resubmitting.

I received my acceptance letter today, so I'm pretty happy right now! Good luck to everyone else going for SLS admission!

This may have already been mentioned but I recieved a letter today saying I was put on the SLS waiting list, not sure why, I had pretty decent PSAT I thought, 60 math 60 english 64 reading, and really good extra curriculars, ACT scores were 32 in reading, 27 in math, 27 in english, but 20 in science cause time killed me. Do yal think science is what was the deciding factor in them putting me on a 'waiting list'. I can't take the ACT again until feb 11th. Do yal think updating my sls application with a resume of my HS activities would help me out any?

So What are my chances now of making it in?

tn48th -

The PSAT's are are great, but borderline for SLS. Yes, I think updating your application with significant new information would help. You still have a great shot.

Hey everyone! I found out today that I got in to SLS. I had strong PSATs (224 composite) but the format of the application form made my extracurriculars look really bland, so I sent in a supplementary essay/resume, and they were really receptive to getting this, so that's definitely an option if you're worried about the form application not fully representing what you have done.
Good luck--hopefully I'll see some of you there!! :)

Take SATs and send in your scores immediately. I applied in December with an 111 v+m on my psats but then I sent in my SAT scores and got in immediately.

I'll be sending my resume in tomorrow I really hope it can prove a deciding factor in getting into SLS I've put alot of time into it, its very comprehensive and looks very proffesional in my opinion, I believe it also represents me a whole lot more than that application did.

Unfortunately the next SAT isn't till April 1st which is also the cut off date for SLS, but I will have some new ACT by late feb. What did you score on SAT michael?

I got into sls with a 58-v 60-m. I also applied about a week before the deadline. I am sure that you'll get off the waitlist tn48th. I am quite suprised that 1) WP has a waitlist for sls and 2.) WP is putting qualified kids on the list in mid January. You think they'd wait and see what the pool is before they start throwing kids on the waitlist. Anyway just make sure you improve those sats for actual admissions and you'll be good to go.

Just got my letter of acceptance to USMA SLS, I would like to put together a list of people going to SLS so we all are kinda acquainted before we get there so it'll make things a little easier, and we won't just be another stranger in the crowd. feel free to IM or PM me anytime with contact info and what not.
Also has anyone heard what session they got in to? I'm already accepted to USAFA SS which is June 11-16 so I hope it doesn't interfere with that.
,Justin

Being a stranger in the croud is a good thing.

Plus, you probably won't talk to that many people outside your squad, and when you do, they'll probably be in your platoon.

yeah I guess being a stranger in the crowd has its advantages sometimes so you aren't singled out by drill seargents or anything if your in Basic Training. But I still thought it would be cool to know some people before we go up there whether we'll be in the same squad or not

Not getting admitted to SLS is not necessarily a bad thing as far as admissions goes. My son was not admitted to SLS but received an LOA that September.

I recieved my SLS Acceptance letter in early January. I was actually somewhat surprised. My extra-curriculars aren't super impressive, but my SAT score was 1320 Verbal+Math so I guess that looks good (1970 with the writing portion). I didn't have my scores back from PSAT when I applied (around Dec. 20) but I recieved them after returning to school after the new year and found I placed in the 98th percentile, so I think that is National Merit Scholar Recognition level or something. If not, then it's still high. I haven't even done any varsity athletics as of yet (I don't have a particular aptitude in a specific sport) and yet I still got in. It may have had something to do with my early application. I'm planning on attending boys' state this summer as well. OH, btw, I was accepted to week 2 of SLS, which is somewhere around the 10-16 of June or something like that. Look forward to seeing you guys there!

Someone mentioned the packing list and I have been wondering about it. It doesn't give any specifics really. Any advice on what we should have for sure?

The packing list that they gave out last listed a lot of extra things that the cadets wouldn't let you use/wear. Basically, all you need to bring are toiletries, towels, shower shoes, running shorts, sneakers, socks, pajamas, undershirts, and kaki shorts or pants. I might be leaving a few things out, but I think that's all I really needed.
