So I am just about to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Design and right now my overall GPA is a 2.4. I feel as if I am doomed and will never get a good job or even just a job to support myself. I graduate in May 2018 I honestly feel like there is no hope for me and I have no idea what to do. What do you guys think?
What is your GPA in the field? If it’s higher than overall, you’ll have better chances of finding a job/going to grad school.
My field GPA is a 2.4 as well
I definitely wouldn’t put your GPA on your resume or provide it unless asked by an employer. Not all employers ask for/care about GPAs, my first job certainly didn’t care as long as I had a degree. So the low GPA is going to limit the companies you can apply to but not necessarily limit your ability to get a good job. Graduate school is probably going to be a hard sell unfortunately as they care very much about your undergraduate GPA and most want at least a 3.0. With enough years of work experience, some might let a 2.4 undergrad GPA slide but not all.
Where do you live? Unless you live in NYC/DC/a highly educated and competitive city, I doubt anyone will care. A lot of people in manufacturing design don’t even have degrees, let alone bachelor’s degrees. My husband works in this field and he’s literally the only person in his department with a degree. I completely agree with the above posters that your GPA will most likely not matter. Just don’t put it on your resume.
Look for jobs in Texas. The economy is strong and there’s a high demand for skilled professionals.
