My child got off the waitlist for Wash U last year before we sent in deposit for another school. It was school vacation week last year and they called on cell phone and then followed up with the letter and financial package in the mail.

ST2 - you should never assume, LOL

Sorry - I keep forgeting and giving credit where none is due

If you get a phonecall, do they tell you how much aid they’re giving, or do they not give aid to waitlistees? (I mean over the phone, other than a packet)

My son turned down his WashU acceptance yesterday. There was no way we could afford the debt. It was a tough decision.

Best wishes for those who are waiting to get off WL.

grats tarkyark, where were you heading before you received the call?

i just got off the WL too! i’m so confused though because i just sent in my deposit to another school last week =O i have no idea what i’m going to do now (luckily i wasn’t home when they called so i didn’t have to give an answer right away)

@desiking75 - They probably won’t give you your aid package over the phone. That stuff goes through a separate office. They definitely still do give aid to waitlistees though, it’s just that they might not have the funds left over to be quite as generous if you try to appeal your aid decision.

@hopeful13 - congrats! gotta love the crunch decision-time though…

Yeah i got the call today as well. The worst part is that I’m also on two other waitlists that I’d probably rather have over WUSTL, so i’m talking to my counselor to see if its ok to go somewhere off the WL after youve already said yes to somewhere else off of the WL lol.

Hey Zoom, did you send in any additional documents, such as a letter of interest or your most recent grades? And congrats on your admission!!!

how is WashU’s yield looking?

@rhyn0

And yet numerous people got the call yesterday.

I hope you take this as a lesson in humility as well as making sure you have your facts straight before you berate other people and essentially call them liars, which is what you did to the OP. Do this kind of thing at Tufts or Carleton and they will tear you to shreds, intellectually.

PS for everyone else: My D told Wash U no thanks yesterday also. Was tough, but too much of a financial differential given her tuition free award at Tulane. She loved Wash U also, though.

D declined offer of admission at WashU yesterday as well, much better aid offer elsewhere. She did love WashU though, and it was tough to let it go!

those of you who got off the waitlist…congrats!

have you guys sent in additional information after being placed on the waitinglist?

any waitlisted international heard from Wash U yet?

fallenchemist - I hope this doesn’t mean you’ll be leaving the WUSTL forum! There will be such a void here without your input. I wonder how many students made the decision to attend WU because of your contributions? Best wishes. Tulane’s going to be lucky to have both you and your daughter.

kn12213 - My Goodness!!! That is so very kind of you to say. To tell the truth, I was going to wean myself off of CC after the May 1 deadline, except for some contact stuff regarding people attending Tulane Summer Orientation and that kind of thing. I have met so many nice people in both areas of CC, and want to see how some of the kids decide. But time to move on, I am afraid. I do wish all the wonderful people I have met on here, both students and parents, the very best of luck.

This thread is really good in demonstrating the importance for students to be courteous and notify all of the schools they were admitted to that they will not be attending. Not only is it the right thing to do, it can save students from forfeiting the nonrefundable (in a lot of instances) deposit money if they get the off the waitlist call before May 1.
My D turned down WashU before the middle of April so I am glad she did this as early as she did.
Congrats to those who are now going to their dream school.

Hopeful13, if you decide to attend WUSTL, then you must send in another deposit (to WUSTL) and notify the other school that you were accepted somewhere off the waitlist. You lose the deposit that you already sent.
