I just got in off the waitlist-so excited!!!!

Congratsssssss!

How were you notified–e-mail, phone call, letter?

I just got a phone call

Way to go!

tarkyark - Awesome! You must be miles high excited.

I’m excited for you and you’re not even my kid! Congrats! Hopefully there will be a number of excited waitlistees posting here in the near future!

Wait, so…it’s not strictly after May 1?

As I previously posted. This will be a strange and active year for WL at most schools. In most years you don’t usually see WL activity till the second or third week in May. Due to the economy, this year WL activity will begin as soon as schools have enough conversion info to begin projecting trends, which is about now. Look for WashU to take between 50 - 100 off the WL this year.

so tarkyark - we all made a big assumption - did you accept the spot? did they give you time to think about it? I’m sure others on the waitlist would love to know details!

Yeah, Wash U had been my first choice for a while. I thought about it for about a nanosecond!

Congrats! And good choice ;)

lol… they have definitely NOT started accepting kids off of the waitlist. At this point they haven’t even seen how many accepted students have decided to enroll.

Also the OP has 5 posts I think he’s a ■■■■■.

Congratulations! :)

That’s interesting rhyn0, since I talked to someone in the admissions office on a different matter but during the conversation the waitlist came up. They told me that as they get a certain number of declinations, they will take someone off the waitlist. I asked why not just wait until after May 1, and they said that this way they have a better chance of getting the kids that are at the top of their waitlist. If they wait, those people have sent in deposits and committed to other schools and so they are more reluctant to switch sometimes. I don’t know the ratio of declinations received to offers made (50-1? 100-1?) but they definitely are taking people. So we think you are a … nm

Directly off the WUSTL website: “Regrettably, we cannot release admission decisions over the telephone.” Is this different for waitlisted people?

But anyway congrats on your acceptance! I hope you decide to attend WashU.

If they call you, that’s different. I know several kids who got off the waitlist last year - they received phone calls.

^ Oh ok, cool.

I know of a couple of people who got phone calls about coming off the waitlist before May 1st. Both were from highly regarded schools that CCers aspire to attend.

The first initial contact when offered a spot of the WL is always a phone call to make sure the person is still interested. rhyn0 - I assume that you have heard of statistics, modeling and statistical projection. Once enough data is obtained to construct a valid statistical model, decisions will be made based on projections generated by that model. Most schools will use such a model. Due to the uncertainty generated in this year’s admissions conditions, I believe that you will see WL activity much earlier than in past years.
