I wish my DS would place this school on his list. Hope remains in recent days so here it goes. It may be a real long shot getting in but if comments could be made that would be great. It will help me give him the guidance needed.

ACT and he is not taking it again...too much going on.

Followed an engineering class program, many AP and honor classes in math and sciences.
Captain of one team waiting on the coach from another, strong candidate as he has been told.
Will have 8 letters by the time he is done in HS.
Just attended the Naval Academy Summer Seminar - Loved it and will be first choice, recruited athlete.
School & community activity - 200+ hours.

So here is the thought. If he does not get into the Academy he is hoping for the NROTC scholarship. On the scholarship he indicated he will study electrical engineering. Given the stats there are three questions.

Will he get into the school of engineering?

Is the NROTC program at this school tough to get into?

Are the odds stacked against him coming from OOS --- New England?

I would HIGHLY recommend he take the ACT again. I will be matriculating in the Villanova School of Business this fall and I was admitted with a 2060 SAT score, equivalent to a 31 on the ACT, which is on the lower end of admits, who scored between a 30 - 33 on the ACT. In other words, Villanova was a reach for me with my scores. I had a similar GPA to your son.

As far as engineering goes, it’s just as competitive as VSB. I have a good friend who was wait listed with 1440 SAT CR + M (with an 800 on M) and around a 3.95 GPA.

My advice would be to take the ACT and aim for a 30 or better (ideally a 31). I recommend looking into Drexel, Loyola Maryland and the University of Maryland at College Park as all of them have great engineering and ROTC programs. Loyola will feel the most similar to Nova as it is Jesuit and mid sized.

Thank you… He has a lot more to offer I just put down some of the things I could think of off the top of my head.

There is no way he has time to take the ACT again his schedule is way too full. He is waiting for his Senator and Congressman interviews, doing his summer AP work, has a job, plays soccer and whatever else he has on his crazy schedule. Come Sept the saga of the schedule continues so even the three hours for the exam would have a tough spot for him to fit. He said that is he does decide to take it again he would like to at least prep this time.

As of last night we discussed Villanova again and the thought is getting stronger but if is going to do it he has to decide soon. His NROTC application is complete and submitted, the first review board in in Aug.

It may also depend which engineering field is he interested in. I believe some are more competitive or difficult to get into than others. I think it may have to do with the number of seats admitted into each area. My son is in Chem E. I was told there are 50 seats per year. The other areas have more.

He wants electrical engineering… He has until Monday to make his final school choice before his NROTC package is sent to Florida for the first review board. Once it’s in he could change schools but I don’t know if that is a good idea or not.
