How many people are offered the Presidential Scholar Award?

I am not sure they ever publish that statistic and I have never heard anything.

An equally interesting number would be the percentage of students who manage to keep it all 4 years.

That, I would think, is pretty high. I have always been a bit shocked at how low of a GPA is required (2.7) to keep it. That’s assuming, of course, that one does not have a violation of the conduct policy or anything like that. I would have thought that a 3.0, at a minimum, would be a more appropriate standard. The DHS requires maintaining a 3.0, and I would think that could be a bit higher also. Maybe a 3.2 or so.

I couldn’t agree more. Such a low standard almost discredits the honor.

fallen chemist, i havent checked tulane site and it probably is there, but figure you would know…what is the grading system at tulane. is an A a 4.0 or a 3.67 ie takes an A+ to get 4.0. if so, than a 2.67 would be a B average?.

Were that it were so, but there is no A+ at Tulane. Here are the grades as stated in the official catalog:

A 4.000
A- 3.667
B+ 3.333
B 3.000
B- 2.667
C+ 2.333
C 2.000
C- 1.667
D+ 1.333
D 1.000
D- 0.667
F 0.000

There is Pass/Fail, Incomplete and others, but this is what they use for the grades themselves.

I guess the only thing I can say about the low GPA to maintain the scholarships is that it probably is a moot point the vast majority of the time. These are by definition the best students so I imagine it is fairly rare that it would be much of an issue even with the higher standards I mention. Still, if that is true they should raise it just for the sake of appearance.

thanks fallen chemist.
