If you’re not on a scholarship that covers tuition you will be charged a $950 PER credit (if an OOS student) overload fee for anything over 16 hours a semester.

I forget who posted about it on here last year but at the time we didn’t know about it and had registered for 17 hours. Sure enough when we looked at his bill he was charged the extra $950. We made a few last minute drop/adds and got him down to 16 and the charge went away.

I don’t criticize UA about much but I think this is an absolute travesty. Full time tuition should cover up to 18 hours like it has always included in the past. Not sure when the change was made but I know it’s been within the last few years.

A few years ago, it covered up to 17, then dropped to 16. Yes, that’s an issue for those who don’t have tuition scholarships. Some schools’ scholarships only cover up to 15! Ugh.

I have a scholarship for half the value of tuition that covers 16 credits. Does this mean I would pay $950 for a 17th credit or $475?

i think it means it will pay 2/3 of the cost of 16 credits. the full cot of credits over 16 will be all on you. : ( i could be wrong, though.

^^^

It means that you’d pay HALF the cost for up to 16 credits, and you’d pay the whole cost for the 17th credit (or more).

This is a very important thing to remember when considering taking extra 1-credit courses.

casino, if you will be paying OOS rates to attend UA, we can direct you to some inexpensive places to complete your core requirements online. That said, we need to make sure that you can get student football tickets for all 3 seasons. :)

Casino…how many credits do you have? How many do you need to graduate?

Presidential scholarship covers tuition, but for how many credit hours?

The Presidential covers up to 18 hours a semester.

Wow, I guess we know why it’s down to 16 for everyone else now. Someone’s gotta foot the bill I guess.

Casinoexec: The bad thing about that 16-credit limit? Your favorite SEC rival allows its students to take up to 18 hours with no additional charges. Of course, that rival also does not have the scholarships UA has.

It’s showing a maximum of 18 credits on mybama for the Presidential.

I think you have to get an override (and a psychiatric evaluation) to use the full 20. Being unsound of mind myself, I welcome anyone correcting me on this. :)

They also don’t have any farm animals that still have their virginity either.

^^^Keeps the food chain intact.

Yes, you do have to get an over-ride to go from the 18 to 20 credits for Presidential, but it’s not hard to get.

Casino…Bama lowered the number to 16 long before it raised the scholarship to cover 20. So, it wasn’t done to pay for the the scholarship increase.

but, Auburn’s OOS tuition rate is higher…for Fall, their OOS rate is over $25k (which now includes a nearly $600 registration fee).

Wow, and they also charge a $600 “study abroad” fee if you want to do that.

And, if you’re a nursing major (and some other majors) you pay an addition $200 per CREDIT, per semester. So for 30 credits in a year, you’d pay an additional $6,000 more.

Yeah, and to make things worse they’ve now abolished the $350/semester Lame Football Discount. Sheesh!
