Just returned from Carnegie Mellon 3/27/14

Here are the recent numbers they don't mention on the websites. Last year they accepted 130 new Computer Science students for undergraduate spots from 6,600 applications for the Comp. Sci, Dept. About 30% of these students were female and about 47% were "international" students. As a white male the admission rate for you is less than 1%. In fact, about half that. They will probably be accepting around 50 white males for next year's CS program. The reason you see such numbers as 28% admission rate or 18% admission rate on websites is because they include the humanities/arts in that number which is WAY more flexible in terms of requirements to get in. If you do not have about a 780 or above on all three categories for SAT, you might want to pass.

It’s helpful to know, if true, but it is hard to take you seriously. If 30% are female then 60% are male. If less than half are intl then a little more than half are domestic. How are you getting 1% white male? How is 50 1%? 50 white male, 30 mix female, and 50 other men asian/black/hispanic not so grim is it? Or you wanted an overwhelming majority back?
