Just some general questions about the application process

Hey guys, I know these are pretty basic questions, but I feel like I need to confirm the details of the application process before I proceed. I'm an upcoming senior in high school, planning to apply to Berkeley as a freshman for the Class of 2015.

First of all, the Berkeley website states that the application filing period for Fall applicants is November 1-30. Does this mean that the online application can only be accessed for fall 2011 applicants between November 1-30? Is there any way to get access to the application beforehand so I can review it prior to this period? There must be something I'm missing.

Also, the "personal statements" that UC has applicants fill out are, as of now, posted on the Berkeley website:

[quote]

Prompt #1 (freshman applicants)</p>

Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

Prompt #2 (all applicants)

Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

Is UC using these two prompts for incoming applicants in fall 2011 (my class?) I was under the impression that these prompts were used last year. Do the prompts generally stay the same from year to year? Just wanted to get a head start on the personal statement, and got a little confused.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I believe the application goes up in October, and you can start submitting it on November 1st.

The prompts for the statements usually are about the same. You can’t start filling out the application till November 1st, but you should be able to see it beforehand.

slisenberger’s got it right

Last year, the application was available on 10/1 and it should be the same this year.

Make sure you submit the app at least several days before 11/30. The server is crazy slow a couple days before the deadline, almost non-responsive.

The UC essay prompts have not changed for several years.

The application will be available on October 1st so start filling it out then. However, you can only submit it between November 1st-30th. My advice is to start on your essays now! Those two prompts will most likely be the ones they will use again this year so get to writing :)!

@BusyMei, Incorrect, they change every few years. In November 2006, when I was applying, we had three prompts and we had a 1000 words. Two essays had to be ~200 words and one had to be ~600 words. They change it up every once in awhile.

Yeah, you are right. I think the last time the prompt changed was 2006.

I said

I don’t understand what is incorrect about that. The prompts have not changed since 2006, 4 years ago.

4 =/ several

LOL, wow, that is a bit nitpicking.

Copied from the Webster dictionary, definitions of several
More than one
More than two but fewer than many
