So when you apply to UW for undergrad admissions you don't declare a major right?

It’s been a while for me, but I think you pick your two or three top choices. Nothing is binding though – so NO, you do not declare your major. I think that during your orientation, they pair you up with an adviser from your top choice major that you put on your application.

You pick the top two choices. If you put an open major (ie French), you will get that major as a freshman. You can always change it though.

Also, if you put a major with direct admit (ie EE, CSE) you will be ‘entered’ into the admissions pool for direct admit for that major.

Again, nothing is binding. Even if you get a major, you can change it later on!

To the best of my knowledge, you still have to go to Schmitz Hall and declare, even if it’s an open major. Right? This is what I had to do two years ago

What major did you declare? My friends (class of 2010 freshmen applicants) just had the major show up on their unofficial transcripts and on myUW under the schedule.

The application will ask for your top two choices… even if you have no idea what you want to do, you still have to put two down.

After two years, when you enter graduate programs, your major will HAVE to be finalized in order for you to continue onto a Masters program.

Actually, I put “undecided” on mine (2011 applicant) and that’s what it says on my unofficial transcript

okay! Thank you everyone :)
