Is there anyone here who's been admitted into Columbia that's had one C on their report during their high school years?????

not me.....lowest grade in HS was a B

Lowest was an A ;)

i got in ED and i had a C+ in ap american last year

congrats fabisfierce.

Reading that has given me a grain of hope Fabs. thanks for the post

lowest an A-

thanks italian. and no problem blabsta. people screw up sometimes, even though i don't consider getting a C a screw up. it happened and i cant change it now, so whatever. it's great that there are people out that that can go their entire high school career churning out As, but there are also equally as intelligent people that don't end up with a 4.0+ GPA for whatever reason. i seriously stressed about the C+, but i guess it goes to show you that they really do look at everything. so yea, it is possible to get in with a C.

fabs, SEAS or CC? and what is "everything" that they looked at in ur case?

CC, and "everything" is the rest of my application (extracurriculars, essay, etc.) what i was trying to say is that apparently they won't throw your entire application away if they see a C on your transcript, which i'm sure a lot of people think will happen. i definitely thought that whatever admissions officer was looking at my application would look at that C, laugh, and toss my whole app to the side. thankfully, i'm guessing it didn't happen that way.

One low grade is a small problem. A mediocre overall GPA and/or lots of low grades is a big problem.

How much emphasis does Columbia put on improvement? I got several Bs my freshmen year, but since then, Ive went from regular classes to honors to aps and my grades have improved dramatically. (went from 89avg freshmen yr to 100.1, first term of jnr yr) I should note that I was at a different school my freshmen year though, a school that offered no honors/aps and used letters on my report card rather than numbers. So far my cumulative avg is 91.98, should be 93-94 by end of jnr yr.

I had an 88 average for freshman year (currently a soph) and also wanted to know if this would kill me.

colleges love improvement. shows determination.

Improvement is better than no improvement. But 4 great years are better than 2 great years.
