does a waitlist at bowdoin/middlebury=rejection at williams?

Obviously this isn't empirical, but isn't a waitlist at one or both of the former schools a good sign of a rejection at the latter?

A waitlist isn’t a confirmation of anything. From what I’ve heard from looking at the boards for Williams/Middlebury/Bowdoin/Amherst/Swarthmore, some have gotten early writes to Williams and flat-out rejected by Middlebury and Amherst, others have gotten early writes to Swarthmore and waitlisted by Middlebury and Amherst. Someone was accepted by Stanford, Dartmouth, Chicago, and Amherst, while rejected by Swarthmore. Many people have been waitlisted by Middlebury only to be accepted, both regular and early write, by Bowdoin. Still another was accepted by MIT got waitlisted by Middlebury.

I would say that AWS and Bowdoin/Middlebury are all roughly equal in terms of selectivity (around 15-20%), so don’t worry about it.

I’ve seen several posts on CC from people who have gotten acceptances to Amherst and Swarthmore and either a waitlist or rejection from Middlebury. So no, it doesn’t necessarily mean a rejection is imminent.

your points seem valid…but all LAC’s overlap in terms of people who apply to them so there has to be some correlation. we shall see…

i’m wondering the same thing. I was waitlisted at hamilton and vassar, so i’m not having high hopes for tonight.

I got rejected from vassar and waitlisted at washington and lee, CMC, swarthmore, and pomona. I got into amherst and williams! things happen… could be attributed to the degree of enthusiasm/time put into the supplements (should’ve beefed up on the vassar app… but whatever).

Waitlisted at Amherst and Swarthmore but into Williams. Yeah … anything can happen.

I was rejected at Amherst, waitlisted at Vassar, now I’m attending Williams. Yay c:

it doesn’t mean a thing.
Rejected at Amherst, early write at Swat and Williams

I was rejected by Bowdoin and Middlebury, waitlisted by Williams
