Hey I’ve just received my admission decision and I’ve been waitlisted. What does it exactly mean? And what are my chances? Is it the same as in Middlebury - 1000 people-long waitinglist for only 60-70 places? Thanks and congratulations for the acceptees!

I'm in the same boat...i've been waitlisted at emory, williams, and amherst.

How'd you get your decision? E-mail or in the post?!

NO NO NO--Waitlisted. Sigh. There was a little FAQ about waitlists in the decision letter Amherst sent me. Haven't read it yet, but it will probably tell you all you need to know about it.

Hahaha, I've been WLed as well! Join the club~

hmm... i'm waitlisted... what do i do now ?

Yup, I'm a fellow waitlister. A girl from my school got into Amherst last year off the waitlist like in early May, so hopefully they will make decisions about it quickly this year again.

I'm also a waitlister. I liked amherst, but i don't think i'm going to try for the waitlist. my grandpa was an alum, so my guess is they just put me on there as a "we don't want to **** off a alum/possible donor" kind of thing. hey, it's nicer than being rejected!

I was waitlisted as well. I was expecting a rejection, so I guess this is a bit better...at least they kinda wanted me...
I've also been WLed at 3 other schools, so I'm pretty sick of these letters and WL Q&A sheets...
Good luck to you all in getting accepted from the list!

4th place I've been waitlisted at. Amherst is pretty freaking hard to get into, so I'm cool with not being rejected flat out. I guess I'll stay on it, but I have other places that I'll be thrilled to go to that actually want me.

Well I got waitlisted, but my greatest achievements were after I turned in my app so I think that might help.
Do you think it will help?

1st place at tri-valley science and engineering fair...2000 dollar scholarship for project from Chevron

5000 dollar scholarship award to go to US OPEN for tennis to ball boy...im the only one in the world to get such an invitation...and I met ANDY RODDICK to take pictures when I got the award (yea that doesnt matter...but it was freaking awesome)

it certainly wouldn't hurt to send amherst a letter detailing your new awards/achievements and saying how much you would like to attend amherst.

ckakalacheva, like you, I am:
from Bulgaria (Sofia);
applying to Amherst;
and waitlisted :)

Are you staying on the list? I actually got in at schools that appeal more to me, so am almost certain I'll be giving up my place among the waiting applicants here.

i am also from Bulgaria and waitlisted...
and i have a question: if i'm waitlisted, and accepted at another school, could i send in my deposit for the other school, and still stay on the waitlist at amherst? it doesn't sound like it should be possible, hmm, what do you think?

You should definitely send in the deposit for the other school, and you can still stay on the waitlist if you want. Not sending in the deposit by the due date would be a risky thing, since you would be relying solely on the chance that you will be taken off the waitlist at Amherst, and that's probably not a high enough chance to gamble on. However, if you do get into Amherst off the waitlist and you really want to go there, you can enroll at Amherst but you'd lose your deposit fee at the other school. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Absolutely send in your deposit to the other school. They may or may not refund it to you if you get off the Amherst waitlist but that's insignificant.

Get set to go to one school and then if you're lucky you can go to Amherst instead.
